Default engine removal suggestions

Hello all, this is my first post and already I'm asking for help?

I have an 02 Z06 and I'm planning to remove the engine and suspension. I will be assisting a friend who is helping me with this project at his home shop.

He has a overhead hoist, unfortunately I understand the best way to remove the engine is from the bottom?

Option 1, Top Removal; can you tell me if attempting the engine removal from the top is a realistic option and if so what should we be aware of?

Option 2, Bottom Removal; we might be able to do the removal from the bottom using the overhead hoist to lift the front end of the car high enough to drop and remove the engine from the bottom (must confirm the lifting capacity of the hoist) or we can use jack stands?

The jack stands we have will extend 24", I'm not sure this is high enough to drop the engine onto a dolly leaving enough clearance to remove the engine?

Experienced wisdom appreciated,
Regards,
Mike

Best, Tom.

Its pretty easy to pull the motor from the top. You will need to lower the front cradle down to the last few threads when reinstalling the engine so the batwing oil pan will clear the cradle.

I removed mine from the top...no issues. Drop the cradle a couple of inches for removal and replacement. Piece of cake!

Thanks for the input guys. I have a week before we begin work to remove the engine and suspension. The balance of the car will get parted out.
Thanks,
Mike

I have been working on the car for about 5 or 6 hours and have the engine lift hooked up ready to pull the motor. It really isnt that much work to get it ready to pull.
Now here is where Im stuck I cant seem to get the motor off the torque tube, if anyone has any suggestions Im open to them.

Make sure all the bolt are out. Spray some pb blast or wd around the two retainer pins. Use a flat tip pry bar to loosen it up

Is there anything else that needs to be removed its almost like its stuck on the shaft. I have a 3/8 " gap all the way around but I cant get it to budge past that. It seems like Im missing something else, do I have to unbolt the clutch or anythign?

You disconnected the slave hydraulic line right? Other than that and the bolts it should come right out. It will take a little push so don't be afraid to man handle it a little. It will separate though just finished up a c6 motor swap last week.

Your right. I always remove it anyways because of clutch replacement . DO you have the motor hooked up to the lift? Move it side to side it will come free
