I have been looking around for car insurance tonight. My current insurance company has increased my policy cost by about $100, again. They increased the premiums 6 months ago and I let it go as just part of the cost of owning 3 cars. They offered the standard reasons, cost of claims in my state have increased and I have passed the old age of 55.
I found the best rates with Esurance and attempted to purchase the policy online. The vin for my 2001 corvette kept showing an error. I was asked to call their office for further assistance. Everything was going well and even "paid" for the policy with a credit card while on the phone with an Esurance rep. That is when the Esurance rep came back on the line to inform me that the vin for my corvette was showing that this car was a Z06.
They CANNOT write a policy for a Z06. He offered to write a policy for the other two cars and I could look elsewhere for insurance on the Z. I said all or nothing. Cancel the payment. I will take my business elsewhere. He even called back and apologized and offered quotes on my other two cars.
I know that I can get insurance through the NCM or most any other company on the vette, but I will keep all vehicles insured together.
It was just a bit of a shock to learn that the Z06 is considered uninsurable by any insurance company.
OK. venting over.

Well, the Z does have more HP than the standard Vette and some insurance companies feel that is excessive. Try other companies, not all are like Esurance.

I think that is another unintended consequence of the new "Unaffordable Care Act", all auto policies have to have coverage in case your Z06 gets "knocked-up".
