In less than a year owning the car I've had two chips that caused damage and I was lucky enough to repair.
I washed my car today and through the clean windshield I have dozens of pock marks from rocks chipping the windshield.
Anyone else have this issue?
I only have 28k miles on the car and the windshield looks like I drove it through a quarry at a buck twenty!!!
Welcome to the lighest corvette of the C5 era. The C5 Z06 is made with the thinnest and lightest windshield made, and is 5.7 lbs lighter than the standard windshield on coupes and verts. We all have the rock chip problem. I've herd there are chip repair kits, but have never tried one. I cracked my 1st windshield while applying too much upward pressure installing my radar detector. I'm on my 2nd windshield, and I regularly track mine on road courses, at 75k on the od, its time for windshield number 3.
I used Safelite, pretty sure they're the only legit rock chip repairers around. I had one filled and you can barely tell it's there now. I am curious if these monkeys know the diff between Z06 and non windshields.
may i ask im not sure if most windshield replacements can get the antenna incorporated windshield. Is the convertible windshield the same as z06 with no antenna or is the convertible windshield a heavier thicker glass then the z06 or are they the same? Mine was replaced on my 99 without the antenna and wondering if its the lighter z06 windshield with no antenna or a convertible windshield. Where do you get the base coupe antenna incorporated windshield? I had mentioned it in another thread but 4 months ago midnite a hail storn came thru im thinking thats what left two minor chips in the replaced windshield i got with the car last year and was quoted 255$ for a replacement windshield installed by local windshield repair on marketplace.
Its possible two rocks maybe flew up on the highway ive seen them bounce up on windshield and nail the targa top pretty hard would have to travel safe distance between cars. They told me the windshield trim was body shop type of work do they still sell the rubber trim new for the front glass?
My Pits?... C5 yes.. The E Type yes.. The 911 yes.. The MG yes.. The Dodge pickup No!.. Measured distance from the ground to the windshield has the direct bearing on what's gonna impact the "soft" glass... No chips on the Country Coach motor home!...and none of the Piper Cub!
I've had a similar issue with my car, where it seemed like every rock on the road had a personal vendetta against my windshield. However, A Chick and a Windshield came to the rescue. Their skilled technicians were able to repair the chips and restore my windshield's integrity.
You can learn more about their services and get in touch with them at https://achickandawindshield.com/. They have the expertise to assess the extent of the damage and recommend the best course of action.
In the meantime, to help protect your windshield from further damage, you may want to consider maintaining a safe distance from vehicles ahead and avoiding areas where there's a high chance of rocks or debris on the road.
I hope this recommendation helps, and I encourage you to reach out to A Chick and a Windshield for expert assistance. They'll be able to provide the necessary solutions to restore your windshield to its former glory.
Yeah these sit low ive seen them kick up from vehicle infront on the hwy off bumper into targa top pretty hard from inside. I try to keep a distance now behind cars. A few months ago dime size hail came through and put two chips in my windshield thats been replaced a few years ago.
People claim soft glass but the other factors in play are often the cause.
#1 the Corvette sits very low, what hits the grill and bumpers of most vehicles hits the glass on our car or hood. The slope of the nose deflects little.
#2 The roads in many areas are in very poor shape. Even places like California that do not get the weather changes are seeing poor roads due to budget cuts.
#3 One of the greatest factors is the advent of the SUV, CUV and more trucks on the road. Many have short over hangs and larger tires that launch rock often and many do not have flaps or anything to prevent them flying.
There are other issues but being low does put us into an area where things are going to come flying at you.
Mine is a 99 supposedly they used a thin glass z06 windshield when they repaired it i think as i dont have the antenna in it. The 02 body we have has supposedly the thicker glass antenna in it up top like the classic 70 gtos did i believe or atleast i had read somewhere that they did i may be mistaken.
Do they not sell the antenna windshields anymore i was told it was in the front windshield on the base models my 99 i think has it with the coily wire on top rear hatch.
On my 99 there is a flat metal spade connector hanging just infront of the rear view mirror that? Any idea what that is for?
My understanding was the Z06 and later convertibles have the thinner lighter glass with no antenna and the coupes get the thicker glass with the antenna in the rear glass. I have a convertible with he thin glass.
I think my buddies 04 hatch has the antenna in the rear hatch glass.

Highly recommend. I have a friend that uses it on his SXS, another on his 458 and several others on their AMG GTRs and Porsches. (yes I'm the poor guy in the group)
For the group of friends I typically drive with on the street most are on R-compounds of some type OR track days. Rocks get chucked like crazy. We've had an incredible amount of rain this year too so there's even more crap on the roads, especially the back roads.
