I got this light while running laps on the track yesterday. But the owners manual only discusses this warning for automatic transmissions. I pulled off and let it cool down before proceeding, and didn't have any more warnings or problems, but could this cause a problem? Should I be concerned?
It has happened to a few on the board. If you hit the reset button it would give you the temp. That is the only way to access the temp. I think the warning comes on at 270*F http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=308570

I was wondering how the high temp warning worked. I looked in the owners manual real quick yesterday and didn't really find anything. I know GM's Z06 page mentions it but really doesn't say whether it is a digital read out or an idiot light.
From what I have heard the DIC will display "high trans temp" You can then hit the reset button and it will display the temp.

I had this problem at my first two track events. It was hot out (100) and I was running in 3rd gear for most of the laps. Lately I shift up to four a little earlier and run 4th more. If you are only running 7/10 in cornering and braking, why push the engine to 10/10? I haven't seen the warning since. The fix is a transmission cooler which will void the warranty - I guess cause you shouldn't need it with "normal" driving.
Now I push it hard for a couple of clear laps and then cruise in a higher gear working on my cornering. It also keeps the oil temp down.
I ran two laps on the Hockinghiemring after the warning light came on and the Temperature changed from numbers (285) to HOT and did not display a number just the word HOT. It took about 45 minutes of slow driving before a temp showed up again. Time for a cooler!!!!!!!!!!!!!
