Ran the car really hard Saturday, brake pedal feels a little softer than before. I did experience some significant brake fade at one time while batteling with a ferrari. Could I have boiled the fluid? Is this why the pedal is a little softer now? Brakes are still good.
What's involved with fllushing the brake fluid lines and refilling. Is it an easy do-it-yourself job, or should I have the dealer do it?
The problem you are having sounds exactly like cooked brake fluid. I'd advise flushing the system and putting a good quality high temp fluid. I use ATE and it's available from several of the fourm vendors. Flushing the system is pretty easy and I recently installed a product called SpeedBleeders that made the process even easier. These bleeders replace the stock bleeders and now it only takes one person to do the job. This is one of the few aftermarket products that I've purchased that fit right, are ease to install and do EXACTLY what the say they will do. They can be reached at http://www.speedbleeder.com.
I trust you gave that Ferrari a lesson is ZO6 performance. Just an additional suggestion in addition to vettejohns; check your pad thickness. I have discovered that thier insualting value drops considerably with wear and durring long sessions, especially at TMS where brakes get heavy use, I believe this has to increase the tendency to overheat the fluid. I will aslo second the recomendation on the speed bleeders. They are a great product and well worth the price. Be careful not to let the fluid level in the master get too low while bleeding like no less than 3/8 inch from the bottom. Air can be ingested into the mc at low fluid levels due to turbuloence caused by fluid passing through the ports. Air in the system is a real pain. I have always sucked out the old fluid in the mc then replaced it with new before bleeding/flushihg. Were you at the Panoz track day at TMS ?
I would definitely change the fluid, it does sound like you boiled the fluid and now there's some air in your lines. Changing it out yourself is not difficult, although you will need a helper if you don't have the speed bleeders. My dealer wanted $135 to do the job, I bought the Motul for $24 and just did it myself.
I used Motul 600 and put a new set of pads on in anticipation of Road Atlanta next month.
Good luck.

Yes, I did show that Ferrari who had more power. He eventually lost his brakes, and went off course. I blew right past him.
I was at the Panoz track day at TMS. It was a blast. I'm really looking forward to doing that again. The road course is small, but combine that with the oval, and it's truly a unique experience.
