Default 2000 C5 Anyone know if.....

Does anyone with a 2000 model C5 know whether the C5s that year came with that metal plate going down the center of the car underneath? I think it covers the transmission tunnel and part of the exhaust pipe. Mine doesn't have one....you can see the cats and pipe all the way down the car.

I believe these protect the exhaust pipe and add strength to the body?

if your talking about the tunnel tube cover, YES. it goes between the exhaust and torque tube.

If you look at the side of the tunnel you will see all the threads for the 10mm bolts

Hmm thank you....I guess some idiot decided to take it off and leave it off. Now I will have to purchase one. I guess they thought maybe the bugs on the ground would enjoy seeing a stock exhaust system!

If anyone has a stock one that they don't need...I would be interested in buying one. Found a used one a vendor was selling for 59.99. Not sure what a new one would run.

The tunnel plate is ABOVE the exhaust and under the torque tube. It is normal to be able to see your midpipe and cats.

Must be talking about two different things then. The plate I'm referring to is flat and is supposed to add strength. Here's a picture of one:

The first picture is supposed to be the stock one.

This is on a c7. Would be an interesting idea to fab up one for a c5.

Someone did....Just saw one that is 3/8" thick. Made for race and autocross mainly but the did recommend it for convertible and coupes to strengthen the body structure. I can send you a link if you would like to see it.

Neither one pictured is stock . . both aftermarket pieces that claim to improve handling/rigidity and reduce tunnel heat.

Well the first picture I posted came from "Corvette Recycling" and was listed as a used OEM part. Maybe it was offered as an option?

Okay...I see now. This picture shows where the OEM plate goes.
I guess the other ones flush with the bottom are aftermarket or C6 cover plates.

Yes the first picture is a stock one, after market ones for the C5 have holes cut into it, at least my 3/8 on does and my stock one has the dimples as pictured.

the price is prob. a decent one, you could try to knock it down a few but your call.

So you are saying you dont have one at all, correct?

you will feel a very little amount of less heat with a stock one on, you could insulate the side facing the car some if you choose, my after market one did cut down on more heat , with the combination of interior insolation, dynamite sound deadener and new carpet it is at a very tolerable heat level inside the car and trans tunnel. my Dog is happy with the reduced heat and at 16 its all worth it.

Nahh....it was a mix up. I do have the heat shield like in the first picture. I was confusing it with the flat covers that bolt on over the exhaust and is mainly to add strength to the body for race and autocross. Such as in the second picture. I think maybe the ZO6s comes standard with them to beef up the cars structure.

As far as C5 OEM factory pieces are concerned, the "Z06" is no different than all the other cars. They all use the exact same tunnel plates.

I see....I guess my friend's ZO6 has an aftermarket plate under it. We weren't sure if all C5s came with it or not.

The way to tell at a quick glance is: if it's embossed with ridges/grooves, etc, it is OE. If it has a uniformly smooth surface, it's aftermarket.

Btw, the OE pieces are sheet steel and the aftermarket pieces are aluminum and much thicker.
