I seriously considered shoe polish. But from what I've read, unless the rough surface is re-sealed it will wear off rather quickly. I just ordered a color match kit from Magic Mender.......we'll see. It would make me quite happy to get a viable repair in my own garage.

I have the same wear, but the eye is brought to the rip down by the hinge on mine, so it doesn't look so bad.
If you have a used car lot around town, contact them. Most lots have a guy come by to touch up the cars bought at auction, and you could hook up with that guy. I never closely watched the work, but spray paint is often used inside.
