Pintoblades I'm definitely interested in hearing how it sounds after you get the bars back on. I have bars/shocks/links on order and I'm hoping to get rid of the same clunking on my 02!
Hi Koiler, yeah I'll let ya know how she sounds with the sway bar back on with the new end links. I'm confident it will be quiet as a mouse.

Default rattle

Congrats on the fix. I know how gratifying it is to chase a rattle for days and then to finally find it. Once I had this insanely annoying rattle inside the cockpit around the upper windshield area. After days of checking it turned out to be the little lenses in visor lights moving around. Took them out, shimmed them up - all good.

With both the old and new shocks laying on the floor, they looked the same height. I didn't measure them but they were awfully close if not exactly the same with no weight on them.

Lower is good!

That's odd as I usually hear the opposite effect but that's good to hear. I have the f45 and they are shot so I need some new ones and have the upgraded c6 z51 suspension. Oh if you haven't done so already update your original thread and it's title with "issue resolved" that was if other members search they will see the fix. Congrats now SuperCharger time?

Thanks for this report. BTW, last month I had all my swaybar links replaced (the rubber was shot). My mechanic replaced them with the metal link ones, when I thought I was getting stock ones. What a difference. The suspension is like new, whereas before there was a lot of play, clunking, and shimmy on rough roads. Everything is nice and tight now.

Yeah initially, the car was up a bit higher but I was told that after you drive it around the block and let the suspension settle back down after being lifted...the true height will show up. So I did, and that's when I found it to be slightly lower. Really loving the shocks and no rattle. I will definitely update the original post.
Next I want to change the spring adjuster bolts/pads....they looked pretty flattened out and worn.

No problem, Yeah it's amazing what new parts will do to your car and psyche!
Eventually, I figure I'll have everything new in the suspension. Little here, little there...definitely a work in progress. But very enjoyable.

I hear ya....something so simple will drive you nuts and takes a while to find. Glad you and I both found them! I"m smiling while I drive now...instead of rolling around in my seat listening to this and that....people probably thought I was having some serious farts in my seat and couldn't sit still!

So now, with the new shocks on and the rattle gone....this C5 is damn sure quiet going down the road now! Now I can enjoy the bose stereo and not worry about what the hell that noisy rattle is! haha
What was the factory stock suspension package on your C5? The standard FE1/soft ride or the Z51 suspension package?

I'm surprised no one asked this yet: C5 or C6 shocks?

I believe it was the standard soft ride. Looking at the old shocks doesn't really tell me. Guess I could look up the part numbers and see. I'm guessing the soft ride though...she is much more rigid now but still a nice smooth ride.

I went with the new C6 ZO6 shocks. Really love them and Gene's price was great for all four shocks.

Looked up the part number 10431989 and it says GM Soft Ride shock absorber.
So...now we know. I like the stiffer C6 ZO6 shocks MUCH better!

I did a total suspension rebuild ( bushings, Ball Joints, etc, etc ) on my 04 and along with that I put Z06 Shocks, Springs and Sway Bars on it. Although the handling was out of this world the ride quality suffered greatly. I pulled the stiffer Z06 springs and put back the base springs.

Rides and handles like a dream although I still notice a slight difference between Base and Z06 Shocks, being they are a bit harsher on bumps and pot holes.

Since you got the sway bars off for new mental link ends I would just put the Z06 sway bars on also. I have them and its a great upgrade from stock.

If in fact the shocks lowered the car then it will have an affect on the alignment. Not sure what 1/4 inch would input to "actual" changes but just a "heads up". I need to look at the design closer on the C5 but I don't have experience with shocks affecting ride height unless the old ones were somehow affecting the height thru binding, etc. You may be actually back to where you were when it was last aligned.

pintoblades, have not kept up w/ your rattle problem, glad it appears to be fixed.I had an annoying rattle from the right rear. After I had car in shop to upgrade exhaust,I starting to hear a rattle…figured it must been an exhaust bracket……anyway the rattle was that in the frame there are 4 riveted inserts for jacking up the car. The shop had snapped off the rivet one side of the insert and it was driving me nuts.( of course they denied it) Again I laid under that car for hours before I figured it out.Right now it is simply tightly wired w/ ss aircraft wire, someday I will have the rivet replaced. Good luck

I guess you got the popped rivit out of the frame and stopped the rattle?
Yeah that sounds like it would have required CSI to find!
