When I got my '98, I couldn't wait to wear out the tires so I could put some different wheels on.. which I did in 2000 - a nice set of thin-spoke Y2K Corvette GM wheels.. very nice.
Fast forward 14 years.. My father passed away and I inherited his 1961 Corvette (original owner). I have spent the past 2 years restoring the car.
You would not believe the pain (and money) required to locate and purchase all the parts required to make the car "as original".. $400 for a gas cap! $200 for a wing nut! Original trunk jacks go for $1500 (yes, really!), IF you can find them at all (which is not guaranteed).
So after this experience, I went out and picked up a set of Wagons... while I can still get them cheap - which I will re-install on the 98 at the next tire change. To protect it's long-term collector value... even though I may not live to see it !!!
I think the guys saying "wait and see" are going to be right! It's just a matter of when.
The C5 will never be collectable. The trend to electric will phase out gas before that happens. There were just way too many of them made. Way too many garage queens with no miles on them.

In my book the C5 is definitely in the classic league already, yes it's a matter of time 'til they take off, but they will.. just like all the rest of the model yrs, check C4 prices lately???...... Kudos to restoring the WAGONS on the '98..I see guys are restoring c5's to orig as we speak.
I agree. I'm obviously biased... but to me the C5 was a bold original design. The LS engine platform was new. C6s are more refined.. but they are a derivative of the C5 in many aspects. I think the C5 may become the "Split Window Coupe" of our generation.
Some guy in my area is selling a decent set of wagon wheels, for $50. I've seriously thought about purchasing them.
I would pick them up, especially at that price. How can you go wrong? I'm not crazy about the silver wheels but I think, and I know I'm in a pretty small minority, but I like the chromed wagons. Best wishes!

I've seen some wagons powdercoated in Comp Gray or Matte Bronze, that really looked great.
My car came with polished thin spokes but needed tires. Found a set of PlastiDipped wagon wheels with good rubber from an inmate here and figured I'd swap the tires over to the thin spokes but after trying them out I kind of like them. I think they look a bit "sturdier" than the thin spokes.
I have a mint set in chrome that still have tread on the tires, but of course, the age makes them trash. Has tire sensors too which worked when I took them off the car...I was thinking about selling them in the hope that the imports or c4 guys want a perfect set.......umm

That's what I said about my 69 Mach I, 69 and 70 GTO, 73 Trans AM, Buick GS, ect
Although the wagon wheels are not the best looking rims that came out of GM, I would still like to have a set for my 97. Right now I have black Z06 rims which look good, but obviously not stock.
