Default 02 vette 19k

i dont make a lot of money (no college degree so just regular store job) and ill never get a girlfriend so i really want a nice car. I'm 24

i found a 02 vette for 19k which i could trade in my mustang gt 06 and get a loan finance, but it would be tight.

will corvette work as a only car? i dont think ill ever have more than 1 person riding with me, is there enough room behind the seats and in the trunk to put stuff in?

I've mostly only had mustangs and i had a few camaros but they gave me tons of problems, are corvettes pretty reliable?

btw i also live in MN where it snows a lot, my stang was awful in snow but i got some snow tires last week and it tears through it like nothing, will corvette run good with snow tires in snow?

A Corvette as an only car in Minnesota is probably not a great idea.
The snow there can get pretty deep and the Corvette is built low to the ground. They do not make good snow plows. Although I know they clear the roads soon after it snows up there, and the Corvette traction control works well, I just don't think it'd be a very good idea.

PS.
If a girl is attracted to you because of what you drive, you probably are better off with out her.

Corvette's don't like snow tires, either.

I paid a lot less than that for my '01 coupe and I can fit a lot of crap in mine. But it's been parked for the last 3 days due to snow and ice. I have a '92 Silverado 4x4 that I drive when the weather sucks.

Corvettes and deep snow don't mix. Ditto what he said about the young ladies.

Never???

i found a 02 vette for 19k which i could trade in my mustang gt 06 and get a loan finance, but it would be tight.
You don't want a tight financial situation and own a Corvette that is 12 years old. there are seven computer modules that any of them could cost you 500 dollars to 1500 dollars each. Tires are 900 dollars to 1500 dollars. You would be much better off with a truck or a four wheel drive vehicle in MN.

will corvette work as a only car? i dont think ill ever have more than 1 person riding with me, is there enough room behind the seats and in the trunk to put stuff in?
You can't have more than one other person in a Corvette with you. you can put two sets of golf clubs in the trunk

I've mostly only had mustangs and i had a few camaros but they gave me tons of problems, are corvettes pretty reliable?
You are 24 years old and you've had nothing but Camaro's ( plural ) and Mustangs ( plural ). you have only been driving 7 or eight years. Thes Cameras and Mustangs that have given you so many problems IM taking it were not brand new. So you have bought a few lemons and poor choices to have so many problems in such a short time. With the corvette Tax, you will be in much more financial trouble with a 12 year old corvette, than the 8 year old mustang you have now.

btw i also live in MN where it snows a lot, my stang was awful in snow but i got some snow tires last week and it tears through it like nothing, will corvette run good with snow tires in snow
because of the wider tires, Corvettes are very hard to attempt to drive in the snow. Dedicated snow tires are not made for a Corvette. they do have all season tires but because the tire size, they wont be practical or dependable in MN..
First of all welcome to the forum. You're 24, and will never have a girl friend ?.. You live in MN. A mustang is like a four wheel drive vehicle compared to a Corvette. You can not use a Corvette as a Daily driver in MN. anything over 4 inches will be a no go. Corvettes can be very costly to repair. Ill tell you given your situation, I would not recommend a Corvette as an only car. With no mechanical skills, a corvette will quickly make you want to unload it before it completely unloads your bank account.

with the Corvette not being a great winter-driver choice, although, many still do it and are successful.

As far as this statement . . .

Like these will help him make a wise decision

Welcome to the forum. Like most said a Vette is not a practical daily driver car and it is costly to maintain. Even tho some use them as DD cars, for most on this forum it's a second/third/fourth car. The reason you see an average Corvette driver's age somewhere north of 40 it's because most of us gain financial stability in our later years and can afford these toys. You would be much better off buying something more practical like an SUV with fold down rear seats. Who knows, your past/present/future girlfriend/wife might like that better than tight two seat sport car

Now I'm ready to get flamed for age stereotyping. Bring it on old geezers, after all I'm part of that club

Divide the money and you can have both. Sell the Mustang . Use the money to buy a cheap but dependable car for DD and buy the Corvette for nice weather. You can find a decent Corvette for less money if it is just used as a casual driver.

If the payments will be tight, wait till you see what your insurance will be.

I applaud you for having the wisdom at such a young age to ask questions like this in advance. With a head on your shoulders like that, you'll have both the girl and the car of your dreams sooner than you might think.

That said, I don't think its today.

Lots of good fatherly advise here. I agree. Do you want to own a car or do you want a car that owns you. Sounds like you need to set your life standards higher first. You have a long road ahead of you and you sound like you have accepted defeat in life. College isn't for everyone but maybe a trade school or at least a job that can lead somewhere is what I would concentrate on for now. If you want a girl it will happen, especially if your not looking. If you don't start setting some higher goals now, later you'll wish you had. There will always be Corvettes.

Living where you do, I would not have a Vette as a DD. And to have payments that make it tight financially is not a good idea, especially if something unexpected comes up and they you really get into a bind.

Way back in the '70's I had a Corvette as a daily driver in Illinois. It was hard on the car, and hard on my wallet. Now I live in a much warmer climate, and use the Vette as a weekend toy. I'm not sure I would try a Corvette in Midwest winters again, but then again I was invincible in my 20's.

Ya I think this is the best idea thanks! Seems though all the cars around 1500$ are in crappy condition! what make/model do you recommend to be cheap but reliable? also how much should I try to spend?

i paid 15k for my mustang (6k down, and been financing rest)

so maybe i can trade in for a cheapo car and recover as much money as possible, then downpayment that for a vette in spring time?

will i find more corvettes in spring time for a good price? i want a c5 asap because they are my favorite corvette body style of all time...and im scared if i wait too long there wont be any good ones for good price for sale anymore

here's a thought: move to a more favorable climate. It will have to be further south than Kentucky, I can tell you that much.
