I have been running a clear cover for several years. I guess I have been lucky to not get stopped.
I stand corrected. I just checked the IVC and clear plastic covers are permitted as long as they remain clear and do not obstruct the visibility of the plate. Sorry about that.

In addition to clear covers deteriorating over time (brown/milky, etc) the area between the cover and plate itself, may hold moisture and/or dirt-buildup that, over time, can obscure (or blur) all or part of the numbers. Plus there's the whole matter of automatic plate-reader cameras that more and more agencies are beginning to use on toll roads, red light cameras at intersections, speed detection cameras, etc, all of which require the ability to "see" the plates, both front and rear. Any sort of cover also has the potential to distort, or create "glare" from a camera flash if viewed from an angle.
The whole matter of license plates and/or "covers" has gotten a lot more attention over the recent years.

My car stays in the garage mostly.
I also covered the front of the plate with 3M Clear Bra.
Hopefully it will last a while before turning milky.
Its easy to make another one if I have to though.
Its not expensive either.
My car doesn't even have a front license plate spot on the bumper. I don't want to block air intake or make it look like crap. Like it should never have been there.
The cosmetics of a front plate on a Corvette (or Porsche, Ferrari, whatever) will never be great.
That said, I'm not sure blocking the air intake is really an issue. Even with the TS front fascia, most of the air is still getting pulled from underneath: there's a lot of solid metal behind that "intake".

The way you take care of your car I'm guessing that license plate cover won't last 2 weeks.
I hate the thought of "having" to run a front plate. Thinking I may just go without and take it as it comes. In MN we cant have window tint beyond a certain level as well. Most black cars from out of state here have pretty good tint on them. I doubt Ill be removing that either. Im guessing they can simply ticket and fine me but not much more. Sweet rides and ideas from all of you. For now tho I have to settle for going out to read to her from the Mid America catalog while I plan future steps....LOL
I use the Show n go remote controlled plate holder. Been using it for a few years now with no problems . Install was simple. When at cruise night /car shows I re-track plate out of view and raise up plate when driving.

Hmmmmmm ! Would work great for red light camera areas. See a yellow light , slam the throttle while holding the retract button. Before I get JUST KIDDING! Please kids , don't do this !
