Default C6 wheels on a C5.....

I have the opportunity of get a set of stock C6 coupe wheels in next to new shape for very little money from a friend who is upgrading to custom wheels.

My 2004 coupe has 77,000 miles and is up for a new set of tires in the near future.

The C5 is stock with the exception of C6 Z06 shocks and swaybars.

I understand the the C6 wheels will bolt right on (with a 3/8" spacer in the rear) to the C5.

A check with TireRack.com shows the C6 tires to be quite a bit more expensive the the stock C5 tires.

This car is a daily driver and is rarely driven aggressively.

Just what will the tire/wheel upgrade bring to me other than the appearence of bigger/wider tires in the way of ride, handling etc?

I see tires from around $600 to over $1500 a set. What is a recommended tire that will provide good durability, all weather traction and handling and (importantly) a smooth quiet ride?

Thanks in advance.

I went with a 1 1/4" adapter on the rears, direct bolt on for the fronts. Tires for the 18/19 setup will cost you more than the 17/18, but it's worth it. My buddy got me a great deal on a set of Cooper Tires, and I've been pretty happy with them. They are so much quieter than the run-flats. I'm lowered about 3/4" front and rear on stock bolts.

I just replaced my stock C5 rear wheel studs with ARP 2.5 inch long studs bc my spacers and wheels didn't fit. I bought the new studs and took them to a local shop who install them for $100. Paid $40 for 10 studs (rear wheels only) Attached is a before and after picture. I have C6 Gumby wheels with 305/30/19 tires and .5 inch spacers.

The picture is a "before and after" shot of the wheel with the OEM 1.5 (left) and after market 2.5 stud (right). OEM comes in 1.5.

I've got ZR1 replica wheels from Factory Reproductions in Chino, Ca. That's because I liked the look of the C6 ZR1 wheels better than the wagon wheels on my 99 coupe.

They make these in standard C5 sizes with the correct offsets for using your 17/18" tires, too.

Or you could order them in 18" all the way around. Then you could rotate your tires for twice the mileage. Something to consider. Their website also has an app to match wheels to cars, including your paint color, which made selecting the right looking wheels in advance very easy.

Here's what mine look like.
