As many know, I have been very sick and stay close to home. I was out yesterday and saw my first C7 ( crystal red) on the road. It was dirty from the harsh weather. Several things jumped out at me once I realized it was a C7. I was stopped at a light, and the C7 passed slowly in front of me from the right. it rolled along slowly from a start and made a left turn. I was not impressed because it took me a few seconds to realize it was a C7. it blended in so well with the other cars around it. The thing that jumped out to me was the fact that it did NOT jump out at me.
It sat high to the ground like the other cars and SUV's around it. I think the car is nice but the stance of the car, stock, is Ho Hum for the 70K it demands. Most of the C5 I notice, I notice from 100 yards a way, because of their stance. The design of the C7 is much more Euro than it is American muscle or American sports car. I was turned off a bit by the slightly dirty, ( didn't like the color )high stanced Corvette.
While the interior of the C7 is Euro looking it is visually pleasing to my eye. Its definitely not an American Hot rod.
I would like to think that from my design background in Corvette styling that I can see better than most. But my age may skew my 60 year love affair with the corvette. This Corvette is not my idea of the Corvette Icon of the past. Even the C6 took away( a step down ) from what I thought was the best designed corvette Ever, the C5. Although the wide body c6 Z06 and Grand sport are much better than the standard C6. I would never consider a standard C6. Anyway I was not impressed with what I saw on the road yesterday. But a lowered C5 always turns my head clean or dirty. I rarely post a thread like this. IM wondering if the 25 to 49 demographic likes the new C7 design. I'm sure GM thinks they do.

Still looking to see my first lowered C7.
Anyone have any thoughts?

you pretty much summed up how I feel about the c7, dont get me wrong im up for all the newer better technology but if were basing it all on looks... it doesnt stand out to me... c7s are rare in the bay area for now, but I always catch myself wondering if the next camaro I see on the road is the new c7? c5s I can tell from a distance in the DARK just cause of the awesome stance we have... c7 would be cool to have but the looks could use some improvements, in order to REALLY stand out..
I've seen 2 on the road now, a dark gray that blew past me near the bay area and a stunning yellow one that was doing 40 in the 45. I love 90% of it. I wish they would have done a better rear, but from sitting in it to seeing it, I dig it.
I can see myself in a 2016 (NEVER buy the first model year) by about 2025
Bill/E.T. I want to thank every one of YOU who made this dream machine a reality!!!
They HAVE to buy C7's....there isn't enough C5's to go around for everyone. It's been refined so much to resemble all it's other competitors....there's virtually a seamless flow from Celica to the Aztec. Which is basically how it was conceived and built by those involved with it's design. LOL.
From a Designers viewpoint if all Engineers and Designers built a car with the best attributes of all vehicles....they end up looking the same no matter which team did it. The cars in the C7 market basically all resemble each other(Viper, yada, yada, yada).
NO MISTAKING THIS.....

You brought up an interesting point that I did not even consider. This was the first C7 I saw on the road. You said it was rare, and indeed it is rare. It should have been much more in my face, with a wow factor than it actually was. like I said , I saw it but did not think twice about it, before realizing it was a C7. I'm really not bashing the car. Its just not what I would want from a pure aesthetic point of view. The technology is something else completely.
Having had the opportunity to sit in one at Carlisle last year (GM had one of each color, all coupes), I was impressed with the overall look of the C7, inside and out. Yes, it definitely has a more European flair to it than the C5/C6, but I don't think that's a bad thing. I am wondering why they chose to use a gloss black for vents and louvers instead of a satin black. The size of the rear window seems a tad on the small size as well, which can only infringe on rearward visibility. Being a 'vert guy this doesn't bother me so much.
As far as the height goes, hopefully GM built into the suspension the ability to lower the car as we have done with our C5s. Even this many years later, some people are just learning about that capability. Lowered, I'm sure the C7 will look just right.

Reason: GM, not Kerbeck

theres probably more c7s in the area where I live, I probably just dont notice it right away since they DO blend in now.. not bashing it either I think if they put in a little bit more thought in to the design of giving it that WOW factor it would have been an alright car... im sure within the next year or so people will come up with ways of making it stand out... i believe PFADT has a car thats lowered alreacdy check it out its not too shabby IMO
I'd have to agree. I loved the pictures of the new C7, but in the flesh they don't have the visual impact of the C5. I remember a Celica from recent vintage that looks alot like the C7 at a glance. At least it's way better looking than a Nissan GTR.
I have seen a few C7's around the Knoxville area in the past few months. When I do see them it has always been from behind first. With that being said, I always mistake it for a Camaro with the retangular style tail lights. I'm not gaga over the C7. It's a cool looking car but as the OP stated it just doesn't stand out like the C5 does.
I always notice a C5 first before anything else on the road. When I was searching for a Corvette I specifically was looking at a C5 due to it's timeless look. In my opinion the C5 is the best looking generation of the Corvette's.

lol good thing those GTRs make tons of power cause that thing just looks HEAVY !
I was first introduced to Corvettes by my dad in 1976. I was 11 years old and we were driving in a blue 76 Corvette with white interior. I loved it and have been addicted to Corvettes ever since. I remember when the 84 Corvette came out, I was in high school. Nobody seemed to like the new design.
When the 97 Vette came out...I remember being with my dad and we both thought the *** end was to big and ugly. Now the new vette seems to have people saying the same things...ugly *** end, don't care for the design..etc.
I just think people don't like change. It seems that once the change is accepted we all love it!

I've only seen two C7s out on the road so far (one here and one in Kansas City) and they both immediately caught my attention. I really like what Chevy did with the C7 and will hopefully own one some day. I still like my C5 and like the C6 but time marches on and change has to be expected. To those that feel the C5 has the best design of the Vette generations - nothing wrong with that at all. It is a superb machine. Everyone has a different opinion on what strikes their fancy in terms of a car, but in the end we are all enthusiasts for the Corvette.

I do think the C7 looks nice, but I agree 100% that it looks Euro. Maybe it will grow on me in the coming years. Would I drive one? Yes. Would I buy it over a C5? Currently, no. I'm not a huge fanatic of "change," and the C7 is just that. Now keep in mind this comment is before the unveiling of the C7 Zo6, opinion is subject to change!
I can see how you might not care for the looks, but i don't get the "blends in" with traffic bit. I'd say the opposite is more realistic. Maybe your eye is just more tuned in to spot the specific C5 attributes after this much time, and the C7 is enough different...
The three i've seen stood way out, spotted them from a couple hundred yards, lol. I'm frankly finding them a little too gaudy in some colors...
I hear a LOT of people say it makes C5s/C6s look plain in comparison, though. I'm thinking that will probably ultimately be the general concensus in the long run.
I have no idea how the c7 could blend in at all. As for the stance, they simply can't make a car as low as the c5 anymore if they want it compatible with the safety design standards of all markets. Euro pedestrian bumper/hood rules require it to be a certain height.
The first time I saw a C5 I fell in love and have since owned 3, including my current one. Simple class, unstated elegance, and a projection of power.
The C7 is just ... busy. It just has way too much going on. I have a hard time focusing in on it and figuring out what it is because there is just too much happening.

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
