...And the bottom cable is to pull the trunk lid open.. part of it is under the car in the event the battery is dead..Have seen some kits on line but dont no what is the best one..This emergency cable will open the trunk ok, but if your a fat azz it wont do you any good..
I don't know what's hanging under your car, but I don't have any manual release cables under my C5. Both are inside.
When I built my street rod shaved door handles were a must. What I did was use bear claw latches, a type of door latch common to hot rods and customs. I reversed the locks by putting the striker bolt on the door and the latch on the body. This accomplished two things, it allowed me to connect a hidden cable directly to the latch and be able to unlock the door if the battery failed. You have to lie on the ground to reach but that's a small price to pay if you're locked out. Secondly, if someone did want to pop open my door they could slim jim the door forever and not open because there is no locking mechanism in the door. If you look in Street Rodder magazine you will find many ads for companies selling remote kits. Two companies I recommend are Dakota Digital in Soth Dakota and Watson's Street Works in Connecticut. I've used components from both places and they are some of the better companies.
BTW, GBVette's car does also have a shaved gas door. The filler is in the door jamb.
Since you won't have a handle to pull you want to use door poppers. They are little spring loaded cylinders that push the door open when you hit the remote. Using remote doors is no different than the remotes we use to open our stock doors. It does baffle people who look at your car and wonder how you get in without handles.
I like the look.Let the cards fall where ever..Just want the BEST kit for my car..Have the best paint shop in the state of Texas to do my body and paint work. Now I need the best Kit for my doors. Any ideas?
Most worthless mod I've seen yet. Gotta be pretty expensive, too. This actually tops the 15" tall intake manifold, (which sticks through the hood) as the highest cost/lowest benefit mod, IMO.

I personally want to thank you for this little write up. Lots of good info! I've been thinking of doing this for years and have decided that when I repaint my Z, this will be done. God forbid that someone with a 17 year old body style tries something to update the look of his ride if nothing else, its just one more reason to get the door for your lady! Thanks again

Watson's street works is great to deal with I got a lot from them a few years back on a build I was doing. Robert

so? Hot rods must be a pile of useless mods for you then with their shaved bodies, chopped tops, slammed to the ground suspension mods, and extremely loud exhausts. High rise and dragon claw (big ol' Hilborn) intakes are cool things that are far from "low benefit".
Marcos (I think) and TVR simply put a button for the door under the mirrors on the side of the car which would work nicely on our cars. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the sake of wiring it up) the system appears to be electrical. But it could still be done, you just need a back up for when the battery dies.
As for a kit, I think you're on your own. Fiberglass/carbon fiber. Make a simple mold for the curvy shape of the door out of plastic or something so you don't just make a flat filler piece.
Looking for the best shaved door handle kit for my C5? Anyone?
Dead battery fix run a second pos&neg wire from the latch popper to a hidden spot some where out of site so if your battery goes dead for some reason u can take a 12v battery and hook up the secondary wires to get door open and get to the hood pop that wat we did to my buddy's c4
