Default Sticky and gooey?

Maybe It was the heat in garage during summer but the middle part of the driving wheel is very sticky(part where you press for the horne). Is there a replacement for the middle piece only? I'd loose the modified small emblem w/colors but sucks to have it at gooeeey!!!
I've tried several cleansers but no luck! Please give me ideas or about how much am I looking for wheel replacement?

Steering wheel air bag. For a good, clean used one, give Marc at Vettenuts a ring. 615-896-6100

I've read several threads and it seems the center of the steering wheel is painted with vinyl paint and it's sticky because the paint is dissolving. The problem seems to be most prevalent in hot, humid climes.

Other than replacing the airbag, your only other choice is to remove the paint with some sort of solvent, like Goo Gone.

Had the exact same problem and as Tyteflows said "Goo Gone". Just clean it several times and no paint will be removed but the sticky gunk will be gone.

Their is NO need to replace the whole air bag cover.

I thought this was a sex thread.

But they're right goo gone will work. Just be very careful that you don't spill or drip it on the plastic. You'll wish you didn't. I've used it lightly to remove black marks from the oak kick panels and if you exceed a few seconds the plastic melts

I'd like to thank you for this suggestion... It's the only one that worked and took the gum off!! Added a bit of leather conditioner to give it a bit of shine and natural look and it's as if nothing happened!!

I recently bought my 2004 C5 and didn't notice the sticky/gooey mess on the air bag cover. I guess previous owners didn't care much. Anyway, I tried the Goo Gone method. I was using a cotton cloth at first and noticed that the goo was so bad it started balling up (so to speak), so I tried using 4 0000 steel wool and it took that stuff right off. Thanks for the input.

I used "ZEP" Industrial floor cleaner on mine undiluted. The whole coating came right off with a cotton towl and minimal effort. The towel turned black and what under there is perfect. Make sure you use heavy gloves as it will eat into your fingers

I used "ArmorAll Extreem Tire Shine" on my sticky horn cover and it solved the problem. No more sticky, and looks great in the tires too. Hope this helps you.

The entire center section of mine was sticky.. I just now took 10 minutes and it's like new!

Just used plain rubbing alcohol and a microfiber towel, rub lightly with a wet spot of alcohol on the towel until it turns black then use a clean spot of the towel , repeat until complete, after that I cleaned with a light soap and water, then dried.. 10 minutes looks and feels like new!
