I'm posting this on behalf of my parents who own a 2001 Z06. The car in question has approximately 1,000 miles on it and has been babied. My parents are both very experienced with manual transmissions and performance cars.
The problem is that when quickly shifting the car into second gear at high rpms it grinds. We find this to be rather disturbing since our family has owned 3 F-bodies with the T-56 and not one of them has ever had this problem, even beyond 100,000 miles.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I know that the obvious anwer is the synchros but the way this car has been driven, I just can't see them failing.
I'm having the same problem going into third gear. My initial thought was that it may be the synchros, but I don't drive the car hard (i.e. powershifting). I'm just as curious if there is another plausible explantion.
It could be....a bunch of things, but on an low mi daily driver that's been driven easy, my guess is the clutch is not fully disengageing, after the high rpm rise is 1st.It has to be taken care of before there is a syncro problem. If it were mine I would look at the clutch flued first, but that's unlikely given the discription of the way it's been driven, but worth a look in the resoivor. Ric
