The rattle is normal with the pedal is released......new valve springs are a good idea as there were issues. Make sure you give the car a good hard drive through 4 gears, with max RPM up shifts, watch for pedal issues!!!
I got burned with this issue with my purchase, the pedal would not return completely on the 3-4 up shift. Good luck!!
1) Have a local vet shop take a look. Should cost ~$120
2) Pull the codes to see if anything is stored - instructions at - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...codes-how.html
3) Fuel senders are a problem on these cars and are expensive to replace (one each side in the gas tanks). They get gunk on them and the fuel gauge cuts out when you get to the fuel level with the gunk, which puts you in limp mode. Run through a full tank of gas if you can to see if it cuts out at any level.
4) Do some fish tails to see if the "Service Traction Control" notice comes on and engage ABS to see if "Service ABS" is triggered. These are also difficult / expensive fixes.
5) Do hard figure 8s in a parking lot to engage the LSD and check for any odd noises or friction.
6) My car has 80K with 5K of those on the track and doesn't make a weird noise when turning off or a ticking noise - not sure what those are.
I have a 03 z, and it make that rattle noise when u turn it off if the clutch is not engaged. Clutch in , and u don't hear it. Think it's the throw out bearing. I've also noticed in the last year when getting on it threw the gears the clutch seems to get softer as ur ripping on it. Get off of it and push clutch in a couple times and it feels normal again. Did a cam install last year, figure it will need a better clutch after this season so I'll address all that then.
I finally bought it. It has surprising amount of torque compared to my c6 z . Love the short gear ratios. Believe it or not i find it more fun to drive than the c6z. Its got enough torque to put a smile on ur face and not kill u at the same time. Love the quick ratio steering. Brakes are good. Each gear gets up so fast that u can easily miss the shift if ur not careful but i love that about this car. Installed bullet exhaust as soon as i got it and lowered it i cant stand the stock exhaust and the stance of the car. But after all said and done i love love the look of the frc. I also had a c6z51 and this car is better performance wise by miles. The z51 had no pull in third gear no seat in the pants feeling accelerating going 80 mph. But this thing pulls through all 4 gears. You feel like ur going fast in this car but i didnot in th c6z06 although it was a monster . It was to the point that i took the c6 z to the dealer 2 times just to make sure the engine puts out 505 hp lol. Love the instrument cluster look but the ac and the radio look horrible but then again i bought this for the fun factor anf nothing else. I have driven it over 400 miles sofar with no issue i think i was worried too much when bought it as i am everytime i buy a new car. I get a bit of a burning smell when i push it hard but i have had that issue with all my vettes. Handling is amazing i have not dared to go all out in corners but it stays planted like my c6z.
Congrats. Awesome looking car. I picked up a black '04 C5Z myself last week with, get this, 167 miles for $36K. The car even had original plastic covering for the seats and the floorings still. As it stands, I just crossed the 500 mile mark, apparently the official break-in mileage. Will be posting some pics when I'm done with the window tinting, Xpel paint protection and stuff. Like you said, it's just a fantastic drive and that's compared to my current '72 911, '08 Pontiac Solstice GXP and the '96 C4 LT4. It's is simply world class in every sense. Happy motoring..
