For the guys that have been on this forum for a long time: Is there a significant change in the number of z06's for sale as we approach March and into Spring/Summer? What happens to the prices based on the availability? Should I wait to buy until Spring/Summer to get a better deal? There does not appear to be a lot of Z06's for sale right now at $20k and below!
I haven't been on here long but.... ... Life situations tend to be the game changer when it comes to corvettes for sale. If its got a clean title and low miles grab it! ........The correct seasons are definitely a part of buying one the right way. Ask around the worst they could say is no/ something crazy.
~I picked mine up almost stock for 19,700 in November. I should have payed 23,000. The spoiled kid from Cali that i got it from was falling behind on payments and messing up his moms credit, she forced him to sell it..
It appears from my limited experience that those that sell for true market value sell very quickly and those that cling to KBB asking prices end up having their vehicle for sale for a long, long time! I think if I wanted to sell fast I would ask private party value based on Edmunds.com valuation.

I look on craigslist every so often just for chits and giggles and usually the c5z's are way overpriced but I looked a couple of nights ago and I was surprised to see quite a few under 20k and some really low mileage ones down to around 15k... now I have no idea if they are salvaged titled or hiding something so that would obviously be up to you to inspect them... I bought mine a little over 3 years ago and I had been looking for about 6 months before I found one in good shape for a decent price... money talks so if you're ready to buy just sit around and wait until you find one you like and jump on it
Winter is always the best time to buy performance cars since nobody is really using them, and demand is low. That being said, when people bring their cars out in the spring their May be more available, however the prices will probably be a bit higher.
Be patient and search around. I bought my 2002 Z06 in August of 2009 with 34k miles for $23,500, clean title, mint condition. People are still paying that for a similar condition car. You just need to be patient and be ready to buy when you find a good deal.
I have noticed that there haven't been many C5Zs for sale lately on autotrader.com, cars.com, this site, or Craigslist. May be that it is winter or maybe owners are realizing these cars are so good already and easily modded, that they are deciding to keep them over buying a more expensive C6Z. I began looking in summer 2011 but didn't buy until Feb 2013. In those near two years I was surprised to watch prices remain about the same. They never really dropped. I was patient and got the color I wanted with 40k miles for $19k in an adjoining state. One short flight and a five hour drive home and she was mine. Deals are out there if you are patient. If you want one quick expect to pay between $21-25k for a less than 50k mile C5Z. If patient you will find one for between $19-22k depending on year and mileage. Good luck!
Im in North Texas and just got my 02 Z06 with 62k miles for $19k in my area they seem to sell for $17k for 90k miles plus and $21k with less then 75k miles

To clarify, the asking price I agree will be about 19-22k depending on mileage. According to Edmunds the private party value is $13k. From what I understand Edmunds reflects true market value because it averages actual sales data as opposed to KBB which is an average of "asking" prices. granted, a white z06 should be on the higher side of the average and perceptions of shortages of the white Vettes could bring more money.

Edmunds must of tallied up all the crackheads prices. So if you can find a crackhead with a Z for $13G's, I think everyone would jump on it. If you want a true market value on what these cars are selling for, go to ebay. Look at all final sales. Edmunds is way off on all their cars. Dealerships aren't even selling there cars that cheap. KBB and NADA would be more in the ball park I would guess. I'm thinking we Z owners know what we have and love our cars and if someone wants it, they're gonna have to pay a premium to get it from us. Or you can sit and wait for that unicorn that may or may not appear, either way best of luck to you
Edmunds does exactly what you are inferring: That is they use historical data from sources such as Ebay to tally the averages of cars that actually sold and thus derive a true market value. I just added the last sales of 2001 Corvettes on Ebay and the average cost is $13,300. Like it or not statistics tell the true story! KBB + an emotional seller = NO SALES! I have bought numerous vehicles and always paid at or below Edmunds private party value. Most of the time you never see what the actual sales price was because the seller does not want to admit that on an open forum. I will submit that the averages are very close to Edmunds and not what the dealers (NADA) or private sellers (KBB) want them to be!

If anybody is gonna go off of Edmunds pricing, they're gonna be waiting around a long time to buy a car. Like I said, you might find that unicorn or crackhead with one but chances are slim and none and the betting man I am, I'm gonna go with none haha.

it actually doesn't the only book that reflects manheim auctions is NADA in the trade numbers. this gives you an idea of what dealers have been paying and is typically a low water mark. no one is going to sell a car for less than it would fetch on ebay....well, besides that guy who sold the low mile 03 for 18.5k the other day. i'm not really sure why he did that as the car would have auctioned for more. condition is everything with cars this age and you absolutely want to get any car you buy on the the lift, do a full inspection, check manifold vacuum, check bushing condition, check bearings etc. there is an enormous difference between a cared for car and a track mule or neglected car
edmunds beats to their own drummer just like kbb
the other problem you'll run into low balling is many owners don't need to sell their cars, aren't interested in low offers and know sooner or later someone will pay fair value.
Yea, I wouldnt sell my 02 TR Z06 with 80k for 13k even if i was in a tight situation. I love the darn thing too much. So a rare color clean title speed way white with 70k maybe 18k, just because there was only a certain amount made.

Once again, Edmunds is a reflection of actual sales from data sources such as Ebay. Call it low balling, but the actual sales are what sellers are "actually" selling the cars for! Nada and Manheim have nothing to do with retail sales on the private market.

edmunds is always lower than ebay, well, unless the car is beat to hell and that's why it's closing low
manheim and ebay typically track each other within a few %
again, this is bottom dollar and most sellers aren't interested in selling a nice car for the same money as a beat up one
you should see some of the stuff dealers take in on trade. they require time and money to turn for retail
