I was looking for a bat about a month ago. Ended up grabbing a optima yellow top from autozone. Reason being, the C5 needs 700+cca and 120rc. The 120 reserve capacity was a response to the column lock issue. So it helps to have a deep cycle and starting battery.

So if I go to my local autozone and gave them those numbers they would know what I want. Did yours have the side posts... Approx cost?
Thank you

Last summer I changed the battery on my 03. After much research, I decided on a Sears Die Hard Gold, Group 75. The price was $119.99 + tax. It's very easy to install yourself. It has all the requirements for the Vette. The Vette battery has side terminals. You should not have any problems with this battery. The invoice says item # 22833075.

When my Optima Red Top died after just three years, I replaced it with a Sears Diehard Platinum. That was nearly four and a half years ago and it is still going strong. Not cheap, but it's no fun getting stranded either.

Went to Wally World and got whichever one of theirs that the application chart said was the right one. Want to say it had the same CCA & reserve numbers that the Delco had it was replacing. It was around $80.

Just picked up this one last weekend. Luckily it was on special from what it's selling for now.

Yes its a side mount. Like others have said. There are cheaper routs. I have had pretty good luck with optimas so far.

My 2004 Delco battery was 8 years old, so I thought I'd better replace it even though it still worked OK. So I went to a Chevy dealer and bought one...installed, cost me $150.00, no fuss, no muss.

Yellow Top has 98 Reserve and 770 CCA again according to the Optima web site.
There are several different of each type. My Yellow-top has the 120rc and 780cca. There were 4 different of both red and yellow and even 2 blue at the store when I bought mine.

Here is a video that might help explain better. The second video mainly explains how a proper battery with proper voltage will prevent CL issues.

I figured you would go with that since he was I think one of the only ones that actually gave you what you specifically asked for. I just gave you the videos to increase your understanding if desired.

With that said if you install yourself (and I recommend that) always remove the negative terminal first and reinstall it last. The reason is safety and it is the same thing for all cars. If you remove the positive able first there is chance you could ground the connection with the wrench and cause a problem. There is a torque for the bolts but almost no one has the correct tool and torque wrench to do this. I do, but I still do it by feel. Having worked on cars for 50 years there are only certain critical things I torque. Make sure the battery is fully charged before installing. The store should be able to do this or at least verify it has at least 12.5 volts.

Here is the information I got off Interstate batteries web site. the number for the battery is the "Group Size", sizes are universal between manufaturs.. Ex: 78=Group 78, 75=Group 75

Battery Sizes and option Per Interstate Battery Site: Most likely can be mixed between the years.. size looks to be about the same, some have more CCA then others and they do have a AGM. The Number is the "Battery Group" (Size). My guess is that you can swap in a larger batter with little to no work. I would Recommend a good AGM battery, they dont leak acid if they crack or fail like a normal battery. I like interstate myself but there are others that are good. From what i remember i think you can put a Group 78 in place of a 75 amd vice versa.

Battery sizes stock for C5 Corvette's by year:
2004 MTP-86 640CCA

2003 MTP-75 700CCA
2002 MTP-75 700CCA
2001 MTP-75 700CCA

2000 MTP-78 800CCA -Alternate/Optional MT-75 700CCA
2000 MT7-78 800CCA -AGM
1999 MTP-78 800CCA -Alternate/Optional MT-75 700CCA
1999 MT7-78 800CCA -AGM
1998 MTP-78 800CCA -Alternate/Optional MT-75 700CCA
1998 MT7-78 800CCA -AGM
1997 MTP-78 800CCA -Alternate/Optional MT-75 700CCA
1997 MT7-78 800CCA -AGM

* AGM (absorbed glass mat) recommended for high-accessory-load vehicles including frequent plug-in use. 48 Month Free Replacement
* Mega-Tron Plus Longest life in cold to moderate climates. 30 Month Free Replacement Six Year Performance Warranty
* Mega-Tron II Longest life in hot to moderate climates. 24 Month Free Replacement Five Year Performance Warranty

Battery Size index:
http://www.rtpnet.org/teaa/bcigroup.html
In Inches Length x Width x Height
Group 75: 9 1/16....7 1/16...7 11/16
Group 78: 10 1/4....7 1/16...7 11/16
Group 86: 9 1/16....6 13/16..8

Hope this helps

No problem! here is a great post on what battery to get. Alot of guys here run Sears Platinum (AGM), most batteries are made by the same companies marketed under different names.. Exidie, Johnson Controls and anther i cant remember. I have had bad luck lately with yellow top batteries and never had luck with red tops.
