Default Question about getting rearended

Tonight I was driving up a 2 lane road when a guy blew a stop sign and rear-ended/sideswiped me. It didn't do much visual damage but on the drive home I noticed the transmission was shifting a little weird and there was a rattle under the dash. The impact did rotate my car around and he hit me in mid shift, I'm wondering if it could have damaged the rear diff/trans?

Also, anything I should know about filing a claim? The police arrived, the guy admitted fault and was given a citation for failing to stop, the cop just gave me an insurance report. Never had this happen before, not sure where to go from here. Thanks!

You can proceed one of two ways. You can contact his insurance company with the police report and start the process for getting your car fixed. Remember that you can choose which body shop to get your car repaired at. Or you can turn it over to your insurance company, along with the police report, and have them do the leg work for you. After all, that is what you pay them for.

As far as whether the impact damaged your tranny or not, that is something that will need to be determined when they evaluate your car at the repair facility. Good luck - sorry you are having to go through this.

That's what I though, I could just be my imagination playing tricks on me. I felt it slide the car around and heard the tires chirp, so that could be playing into my mind.

That's what I thought too, but my State Farm agent wouldn't get off his butt and told me to handle it myself. In the past State Farm has been very good with me, but I think it is time to look for another agent even though I will stay with State Farm.

Good luck with your claims.

its very hard to determine extent of damage without a good look. I have let myself get screwed by assuming minimal damage based on a quick look and in the end there was suspension damage.

have it checked

PS

That sux

call state farm and file a complaint against the agent for your reasons then call his insurance and tell them your filing a claim against him, take it to a shop you want trust and have an estaminet done, and then have a dealer do one and present to adjuster.

Looks are very deceiving, if the car moved at all the hit was fairly hard even tho looks are light from picture. my 300C was rear ended, thought a bumper and alignment, NO 9300 later it was back to normal.

You never know what the jolt of the initial impact can do. The load and pressure from a hit can snap aluminum parts very easily so make sure it drives like it used to before you sign any kind of paperwork saying the work is complete.

Good luck with your claims.
State Farm sucks. Their like a good neighbor until you need that good neighbor. No accidents ever and when another of their clients hit my car , they refused to pay saying because it happened out of state. Long story with no justice.

Find the best body shop in your area have them look at the car and let them deal with the insurance company. Do not take to a drive in claim center and do not use any Body shop referred by the insurance company. The reputable body shops deal with the insurance companies all day that want to get out for the least amount of $$$
