Default 2004 Commemorative Edition Value???

Looking to purchase a 2004 Commemorative Edition Coupe, "does not have the Z06 package", it's in "very good condition", has the Premium wheels, the glass sunroof and 6 speed;

The Kelly Blue Book has the car at around 23,500.

My question to you guys, since I haven't owned a Vette in a while, I'd like to know if it's typical to pay the Kelly Blue Book Value or is it, (in this economic environment) typical to pay less and if so, how much?

Thank you!

Mike

What is the mileage? Low 20's is fair for a car with good miles.

Here is the NADA pricing, they are more accurate the KBB or Edmunds. You didn't include the mileage so I took a shot with 35K

Rough
Trade-In Average
Trade-In Clean
Trade-In Clean
Retail
Base Price $10,775 $12,600 $14,150 $17,575
Mileage (35,000) $6,400 $6,400 $6,400 $6,400
Total Base Price $17,175 $19,000 $20,550 $23,975
Options: (change)
Removable Glass Roof $450 $450 $450 $500
Commemorative Edition Pkg $1,300 $1,300 $1,300 $1,450
Price with Options $18,925 $20,750 $22,300 $25,92

Appears my cut & Paste didn't work out too well, but you get the idea

I apologize, the milage is 35,000

Thank you,

Can you tell me if paying below the Kelly Blue Book is typical or if paying exactly what the book calls for is appropriate?

Here's my thoughts on it - I try to pay the lowest price I can for a vehicle. KBB is usually high on their prices so NADA would be a better guide to go off of. If the car is exactly what you want in the condition that you want, I would shoot for a price that is below book value at first. If the seller accepts, then you've got the car you want and saved money in the process. If the seller won't responsible that offer, then the negotiation begins. I probably would not go above book in any case unless it was one exceptional or rare care (which in the case of a C5, I don't know of any rare ones).

Good luck in purchasing a Vette. They are fun cars to own.

I am not certain about the suspension package on the vehicle. However, it does have the 12 Disc Changer and Premium Sound Package. The vehicle does have the "Heads Up" Display. Thanks for your input!!!

The 12 disk cd changer might have been a $600 dollar option then but it considered now kinda old school so doesnt count for as much still cool if you still listen to cds though

I'm not certain, but I believe when you have the CE on a 2004 it automatically comes with Le Mans Blue paint, Shale interior, F55/Magnetic Ride Control, 12 disc CD changer, etc as part of the Commemorative Edition package. The recent build sticker thread shows it like this on my 2004 CE Coupe.

COMMEMORATIVE EDITION: 􀀖􀀏􀀚􀀓􀀓􀀑􀀓􀀓
MEMORY PACKAGE
TWILIGHT SENTINEL
AUTO-DIMMING MIRRORS
HEAD UP DISPLAY
STEERING: POWER TELESCOPING
& MANUAL TILT STEERING COLUMN
MAGNETIC SELECTIVE RIDE
CONTROL
COMMEMORATIVE EDITION LEMANS
BLUE EXTERIOR PAINT & TRIM
POLISHED ALUMINUM WHEELS

Hope you get your CE at a decent price. I paid just under $22k for mine in March 2013, but it needed tires. It also had 29K miles, painted top, no glass top (I have one of those from my 99 C5 already).

Just a note about the glass roof...they'll cook your brain in bright sun or higher heat. You'll want to see about getting one of those aftermarket sun shields (basically perforated cloth with suction attachment) to save your brain.

If it has the painted top, that's what will be on the car most of the time, IMO. Good luck getting the car at the price you want!

Mine did not come with the F55 suspension, so this was an option not standard..

Default F55 Suspension

My understanding is that the F55 Suspension was an Option. The owner is unsure if he has that suspension. But does claim to have the original paperwork as he is the original owner. If you paid just under 22k, (this vehicle has new tires) and the glass sunroof, (option is priced at $ 600.00), it would seem to me that $ 23,500 is a little high as this vehicle has more milage. How was the condition of the Vette you purchased? This one is in Very Good to Excellent Condition.

He can tell if he has the F55 option easily. There's a black switch with "Tour / Sport" to the right of the active handling button on the center console. Here's a pic of mine for reference.

Mine needed new tires, paint wasn't great, just ok. On the way back from New Mexico, a semi truck kicked up some metal debris, which then tore my car up pretty good. Hit 7 panels, took six chips out of the windshield and some of the metal wrapped around my right front wheel well. So I basically paid for the rest of the panels to be painted that weren't hit, got a new paint job and a new windshield.

So it's pretty decent now.

I had looked at another 04 CE in So Cal, and with 50k miles the owner wanted $21k, but it didn't have the Magnetic Ride Control, which I wanted.

If your CE has 35k miles, glass top, no MRC, and only the glass top, I'd figure around $20k.

Default ScumOne Thank You

That photo makes figuring out if the suspension is there or not, very easy. Thanks.

Hey, I don't think there's any freakin way the guys going to let it go for 20k. It's near mint, (Kelly Blue Book has it in very good at $ 23,500). Going back to my original question, is it typical for collectors to pay at, above or below Kelly?

Only reason I'm asking is that according to AutoTrader online, this particular vehicle with roughly 35k in great condition has an average asking price of roughly $ 25,500.

When I bought mine 11 months ago (3/18/13) with just under 30k mileage, KBB put it at $31k dealer retail, and $29k Private Party. I paid just under $22k, and I got the dealer to put new brake pads on it all the way around, as well as turning the rotors.

Yeah, I saw that just now on KBB, but only if you have the CE and the suspension package (Magnetic Ride Control).

As you can see I paid about 9K under KBB dealer and 7k under private party. Depends where you're buying it, current market conditions. I see that mine is now worth $24k dealer since I had pretty much all of the options (except Z51 suspension).

IMO, you need to do a search all over the country to check prices. Flying to New Mexico cost me $500 round trip with gas/hotels (2 days driving).

Your best deal maybe in another state. This same car at a dealer in So Cal was $28k.

Good luck!

Jim

On the flip side, my Vette mechanic said he just sold his 2004 CE Z06 with 4800 miles for $38k plus shipping back east three months ago.

Could be that 04 CE models are priced at a premium right now, too.
