I didn't use any wire in the mirror on my car. I ran the wire across the headliner and down the passenger pillar, down the small hole going to the bottom of the dash and added a fused extension to a key on power source. no cutting and splicing of any wires.

I have the cord but I'm not sure what wires I hook up to on the back.

Get out your multimeter. I hooked my Escort up to the Vette several years ago, so I'll check today. I just hooked up an old Cobra detector to my Yukon yesterday. Just get your meter and find the ground (usually the black wire) and then there will be several hot wires. Just make sure you don't get the wires crossed from your detector to the mirror. It's DC so they will only work one way. It could harm your detector or blow fuses in the car if they are backwards.
