I just purchased a hud kit and the lens on the projector was broke on arrival. Can you use regular lexan and replace or where can I find a replacement?Any help or advice would be great.
Contact SteveDotenMotorworks (Forum Vendor/member) and he should be able to help you. I would think it is just a clear dust protection plastic piece. Anything like plexiglass would work if my premise is correct.

Thanks I will give him a call. From the searches I have done they say the lens is polarized and I am not sure if that would effect the display.

I agree - if anyone could help, it would probably be Steve. But if the kit was new and not used, couldn't you contact the vendor and get a replacement?
The kit was used. I am trying to get in touch with Steve. If the polarized or non polarized doesn't make any difference I can replace it myself. I am just not sure.

Never heard about it being polarized. I know the OEM windshield had a coating of some kind to enable better HUD visibility. Many people have commented that if they use polarized sunglasses that the display is hard to see. So there could be some real truth to the lens being polarized. From my early years we used to rotate 2 polarized lenses to allow light or block it partially or fully.
Found one, Thanks, it wouldn't come up on the mobile app. I take it you just remove the bezel and heat up the sticky tape and remove it right? I'm having the windshield replaced ($800) so I should have easy access.
I haven't installed my HUD yet (stupid Winter), but looking at it in hand, the lens is held down by double-sided tape. You should be able to peel it right off. Using a little heat might make it a bit easier, however, the lens is a thin plastic, so be careful with that. Try peeling without heat first.
I put a used HUD projector in my 98 recently and although my lens is just fine the black under it has some sun damage and looks like a dry dessert. Since I have read that the lens can get brittle and crack over time. I did a search for the lens replacement since I will have to pull it off to clean up and re-paint the inside of the projector black again and figured I might break it getting it off so wanted to have a plan B. Everything that I found pointed to Steve on ebay and that the lens is no more than clear lexan nothing special at all. The HUD is definitely not as visible with sun glasses on in bright sunlight however I have used both polarized and non polarized sun glasses and the HUD visibility appears the same with either one.
