I've been trying to make up my mind on what setup to go for brakes rotors. When i called Baer today they said they have discontinued the Eradispeed 1pc rotors i had been looking at and only offer the Decelarotors to take their place.
Old Eradispeed 1pc part #'s
Front: 2301025
Rear: 2302020
DecelaRotors 1pc part #'s
Front 55043-020
Rear 55045-020
Can anyone post tell me what the difference are in the two or if you own either post a picture of them on your car. Any feedback from either as well would be appreciated.
I recently bought the Eradispeed Plus 1 kit, which is similar to the Plus 2 kit. Don't know whether the Plus 1 kit is also discontinued.
In any event, the Plus 1 and Plus 2 kits both come with a 14" rear rotor, a full 1" larger than stock. I have plus 1 rear wheels (19" Weld Racing EVO BC-10 wheels). While the wheel's inside diameters were plenty wide enough for the 14" rotors, the EVO wheels are deep dish style, and as such didn't have enough spacing for the revised location of the calipers. Had to shave off a bit of the rear calipers, and then install 5mm spacers behind the rear wheels to create enough clearance for the wheels to freely spin.
So just be cautious. You may need to do similar minor surgery.
Virtually all factory racing teams use slotted-only rotors, with may using designs similar to the ones shown above. Holes are well known to be susceptible to cracking and are considered only "Bling", just as most giant rear spoilers are.
Hawk makes rotors that have a "chicken feet" pattern of slots that also similar, as are the famous J-hook slots that AP Racing uses. While I have the old school straight slots, if I were buying, today, I'd opt for one of the two I just mentioned. Slots keep the rotor cooler and the pads, parallel to the rotor's friction disc surfaces. With the newer slot patterns, hot spots in the rotor are less likely to happen.
Anybody tried out a set of these Hawk Rotors yet? I didn't see where they had an application for my 94 Z. They aren't zinc coated either so I wonder how they'd hold up?

Have you looked at AP Racing rotors? They may be 2-piece and fairly expensive, but I'd guess they are high quality pieces.
While I haven't tried the Hawk "Quiet Slot" rotors yet, I do have one at work for a newer Miata. We had been experimenting with various slot designs and I bought the Quiet slot rotor to look at. I've had it for quite a few months and it is definitely not rusting. I can see that it has some type of coating - maybe zinc.
We coat stainless steel rotors. They are at least 6x stronger than cast iron ones.
Just chiming in with an advisement and the OP may already be aware of this but I learned the hard way. Make sure when you get the rotors, they are zinc and/or nickel coated. I bought Baer rotors when I first got my C5 7 years ago and, not knowing any better at the time, didn't get them with the coating. They looked like total crap after several rains and car washes. The rust was in the slots which made them the biggest eye sore.
Zinc is certainly better than nothing, but it is very soft material and does wear away, rather quickly. Some rotors, like my PowerSlots, are cadmium-plated but even that coating seems to wear away over time. There are many different coatings out there, including a claimed nano-coating:
although I wish they'd get rid of the holes and replaced them with hook slots.
Dave68......not trying to highjack this thread, but looks like you've put some thought into this matter. What is your, or anybody else's opinion on the DBA rotors? Specifically the T3 4000 series slotted 1 piece rotors? These have a nice design and are nicely priced. There's also a forum vendor on here that sells them. Appreciate anybody out there's thoughts.
From: Dear Karma, I have a list of people you missed.

Thanks! Jim
I can't speak for Dave of course, but I think Disc Brake Australia (DBA) makes very high quality rotors.
I don't know about now, but for a number of years they were in fact the company manufacturing rotor blanks for Baer Brakes, including the Eradispeed rotors. Maybe they still are, I'm not sure.
