My car is an 01 6spd vert and I seem to be getting a full 2 mpg better per tank with Mobil 93 over Shell 93. I do the same mix of driving and the past 4 fill ups with Mobil I've gotten 23 mpg compared to 21 with the past 4 with Shell. I keep track with an app on my iphone and it's pretty consistent what the avg. on the DIC which varies from 22-24 mpg. They're both 93 octane gas so I don't know why I would get better mpg with one over the other.
The main reason for differences would be the local provider's blend of winter vs. summer gas. The Winter blend generally yields less economy for us consumers, but not always.
As mentioned in the post above, probably your right foot.
Well I alternated each fill up over the past year and amazingly not on purpose..my foot stays the same-pretty light unless some punk in a Mustang tries to pass me then it's bye bye...
I'm not even **** enough to care or keep track on such things. I fill the tank when I need it and where I need it and drive without any concern about my mileage.
Same with my motorhome. I haven't even calculated the mpg because I'm going to drive where I want to go regardless of the mpg or price of fuel.
My commonsensometer would indicate there probably is a difference between some brands but I have no data.

im in an 01 6M vert also. I use shell 93 exclusively but we don't even have any Mobil stores in north Florida. Anyway, I don't DD my car so I don't really calculate MPGs. I'd try Mobil to do your experiment if we had stations here
Biggest issue is likely the amount of ethanol in the gas....depending on where you're located and which supplier you use, ethanol content varies .... The more ethanol, the less fuel economy....less ethanol = better fuel economy....some higher octane fuels contain more ethanol as it's a cheap way to add octane....
Around here, Shell 91 is the only premium gas without octane, Petrocan 94 contains 10%.......ethanol content is usually listed right on he pump....

I don't know if they even sell Sunoco in your area , but they do in Pa. and without a doubt it gets the worst gas mileage every time. It seems like they add something to make it burn faster. Most of the others seem close in mileage.
Do you know if one of them is ethanol free and not the other. If so, you will usually see worse mileage from the one with ethanol. For a way to find out, take a look at the following link to see what stations are ethanol free in your area. http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=FL
It's the same Mobil station I go to but there's about 3 different shell stations in my area, none are on that list. I think both premium gas's say "May contain 10% ethanol" I'm guessing the Mobil may contain less ethanol than the Shell?
I have not experimented with brands, but I have been determined to use pure gas in everything I own, from lawnmower to boat to car. Can't hurt, I guess.

I did this experiment last winter in my Camaro (which is an LS1). With Sunoco 93 I was getting about 18.9xx MPG. I started using Countrymark 91 Ethanol Free and it jumped to 21.3xx MPG with no change in driving behavior. I didn't do the math though to see if it was cost effective or not.. 93 was about $3.20 and the 91 was about $3.90
I just found a Chevron station that is pumping Ethanol free 92/110.I haven't
tried it yet as my vette is still in hibernation but you can bet on it that I will as soon as I can.Ethanol can't be all that good for these engines.

Not all gas is created equal. Try another brand of 93 and see how it fares.
like mentioned earlier, you need to run the comparisons during the same seasons.
