Ok,I know this has been covered many times but I have a specific question..door not opening with switch..ok fine I'll use the emergency pull..search forever and can't find pull..finally I look in one of storage compartments and the THE Pull IS Laying In there..So HOW Do I get THE DOOR Open WITH No Switch AND NO pull..While Searching I Found A Small Box With Wires Running FROM IT AND A Plastic Rod COMING OUT OF Each end..THE End Nearest THE Tank HAD A thick Foam Piece ON The End Of it..Any idea WHAT THIS is?..I atleast need to get fuel door open then I will work on the rest..thanks in advance for any help..
I think what he is trying to say is that he can't get his gas door open. But the switch in the center console is not working, neither is the emergency pull (Didn't know our cars had one)!
Have you tried pulling apart the center console and looking at the gas opening button to see if there are any loose wires?

yes..switch connection looks nice and shiny and nothing loose..yes the switch is not working and the emergency wire pull was found laying in storage area in the rear..not sure what made this that difficult to understand but I explained it best I cud..I will take a pic of that other piece that I found in morning and see if anyone knows what it is and if it has anything to do with the door not opening..

It's not difficult now to understand, since you had a little editing done. When the line is hooked up correctly, it runs down the left inside of the quarter panel. (At least on the convertibles) Check under the carpet if you can't see it. Is just the pull handle off, or the whole wire?

RFA/TPM receiver. The two "rods" are the antennae. The foam prevents rattles, etc. 1997-2000 version.
Anybody with any tips to get the door open and get this wire and handle reinstalled?..I can live with using the manual release for a bit but I can't even drive it at all now cause it's dead on empty..help
Are you sure your looking at the right pull handle? There is one on each side of the trunk for each lock mechanism. Then there should be another pull wire on quarter panel behind carpet towards the back of where you see the remote box. It may or may not have a handle on it.

Ok, if you can't get the switch to work and the pull cable is disconnected then I would say remove the wheel well liner and access it from the back side. I am not positive but am confident that you can do something from the backside. I looked at latch and don't know of anything that you can slide into the latch between the fuel door and quarter panel.

Once you remove the liner the release solenoid should be accessible and you should be able to open the door.
My fuel door button doesn't work and I just use a credit card to slide into the right side of the fuel door and gently pry it open. This is what the previous owner showed me to do.

Once the wheel house is removed (about 8 or 10 screws ~) you may be able to manually pull the lever or actuator to retract it and thus open the door. Since the cable is off, the actuator mechanism may be broken where it attaches. Someone may have yanked it too hard.
Here you see the entire fuel door mechanism laid out, and the cable (with label tag) on the left. It attaches to the solenoid actuator mechanism just to the right of the main mounting bracket in this pic; the white plastic piece. There's also an electrical connector that plugs into this as well. Squeeze the lock tab to release.
Don't worry about disconnecting your battery. Not necessary.
That "tab", or mounting point (I think it has a slot for the cable end), may be broken. You can just pull it towards you with your finger and release the door. If the tab is not broken, you may be able to re-insert the cable-end back into it's normal location. If not, you're due for a replacement actuator. I frequently see good used ones on Ebay.
Btw, that round foam piece should go back on the other RFA/TPM receiver antenna. It has nothing to do with the fuel door cable or malfunction situation. It just pushes on the tip.
