Default C5 or C6

Hi there everybody. I sold my 94 6spd last Fall and now it's time to get into a vette again. I know this will get some eye rolls BUT...I need some advice! I'm currently looking at a 2004 Commemorative Zo6 with 27,000 miles (MINT) and a 2005 Base model 6sp C6 also around 27,000 miles. With that said what are some of the opinions on which is a better choice?? I'm not much of a "track guy" but I have and will take whatever I buy on the track every now and then. Thanks in advance for the opinions and expert advice...lol!!!!!!!!

I'd go for the C5 ZO6 if it were me. The first year C6's weren't much as far as excitement is concerned and after all it was the first C6 model and first model GM cars really should be avoided.

Personally, I'd look for a standard 02-04 Z06 unless you can get that Commemorative Edition for the same money, in my experience they tend to command a premium without providing any performance gain. The C6's are nice cars but I would definitely avoid the first model year.

My plan is to stick with my 01 Z until I can afford a used C7 and skip the C6 altogether

In terms of desirability:

C6z > C6 LS3 > C5z > C6 LS2

The first one is too expensive so for me it came down to the 2nd and 3rd cars above. The C5z was about $8K cheaper so I went with that. So far so good.

C6 LS2 wasn't really an option

I would never even consider a C6 but if you decide on a C6 instead of a C5 , the 2005 would be the worst year.

Of those two you mention, I would go with the C5 Z - the CE Z06 is one great looking and performing car.

Default c5 - vs c6

Drive them both then decide. Also the top does not come out of the zo6 so keep that in mind. The c6 being a base car means no big resale value and are a dime a dozen now because everyone wants a c7. Dont forget the flaws of the early c6 and the headlight glazing too. In my opinio its a no brainer,,, the c5.. keep it and later on add a c7 to the collection. I have a c3 and a c5 and plan on adding a c2 or c7 to my collection. I also sold me c4...

Have you talked to the dealer about this yet. How much are they going to knock off that price?

This one is right by my house and I know this guy took great care of his car. Might be worth a look. And it is the better LS3.

I have a 02Z if you want to stop by and take a good look. That is if the snow melts!!

I would go for the 04 since the C6 is the 1st year & you don't want to have the annoying gremlins of a new model.

Personally, I'd go with the C5 Z06 and stay away from the first cars of a generation but that's JMHO. And, it all depends on your budget and whether you like the lines of the C5 or C6 but I'd get the 2004.

I would go for the C5 Z06. Only way I would do a C6 over a C5 Z06 would be if it were an 08 or newer.

It all depends on what you are wanting. A track car, its the ZR1 all day long. You want a back road caver and dont care about interior options, take the Z06. You want a comfy ride, upgraded interior, and is still good on the backroads, then the C8. Dont buy it for status, dont buy it because because its the new thing, choose the car that best fits what you want. Sit in all 3, some times that will make your decision for you.
