Automatic shift knob adapter install

You did such a nice job with the twistee's You should come by the house and straighten out my shift boot mess.--joe
LOL nothing like a twisty tie to save the day

Joe after seeing your car up close I know for a fact there is nothing that is mess on, in, or around your amazing car.
Yeah, I knew that. The **** was my concern because the vendor had other black C5 logo ***** listed as "GM Licensed". The other vendor advertised the **** included in his kit as GM Licensed, that's why I was wondering if there was any difference. You are correct about the thread size.

I was thinking about the situation with the C5 A4 shifter height with something aftermarket so I thought I'd try something a little different.
A quick trip to Jo-ann Etc got me a 2.5" solid maple wood ball (actually a "****" in craft store lingo) which should do the trick as I don't have access to any sort of polymer ball.
Wooden ball and the "plan"
Three stages of finishing and drilled out ball

Some test fitting (including my big paw)

Finished product

All told, i did five coats of gloss black, three coats clearcoat, and finally three coats of polyurethene (with lots of wet sanding).
The finish is nearly mirror-like

It isn't a particularly difficult project and if you have any sort of artistic ability (or access to a polymer ball), I'm sure you could come up with something more sophisicated designwise using the basic fabrication proceedure.
I've had this installed for two years now and I haven't ever had any problem will it loosening up or causing any sort of problem.

) I bet we could take your wooden ball or make one like it then make a rubber mold of it and me able to make any kind of color or even inbedded item in one that we wanted!
Can someone post pictures of the adapter they received? I dont have pictures but it seems like it would be too big. Its a large silver stainless adapter with only 1 set screw.. i hope i didnt get the wrong one
Thanks
If it looks like this one, sounds like you may have an adapter for a C4. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/m/m-Y7aU...1xQ/s-l225.jpg

guess Ill return in. Glad I checked before hacking things apart

I'm a bit concerned with the final result though. Doesn't seem like the **** is very solidly installed. It all works well, but if I lift up on it, I can pull the whole unit off the gear lever....
Am I missing something here? Tighten the set screws more? And is there nothing you can do (glue?) to keep that black cap from spinning and lifting?
