There was a time (30 yrs ago) when Fram filters caused the early destruction of some engines due to this same problem. The filter element would fail where the pleat was perforated over a hole letting unfiltered oil pass thru. They used cheaper paper and later reenforced the element to prevent this from reoccurring. This info was passed on to me via a WIX rep.
FYI I should also point out it was determined that moisture in the oil was the cause of element failure.

I'm just curious why people are so intent on telling people what filter and oil to use.
Personally I use Royal purple some, and Mobile 1 mostly, and wix filters mostly, twice K&N.
I used Fram for years in my other cars and never had an issue. Of course who knows if I was hurting my car or not. I'm not saying I wasn't. But most people who go to those quick lube places get the cheapest filters they make put on their car and never blink an eye.
But say one thing about a Fram on a vette and they get absolutely hateful.
i have been using mobil 1 oil and Napa gold filters, no issues so far. but i am researching that PurePower lifetime oil filter, the thing is expensive though. they claim it filters better and outflows conventional oil filters, looks promising.

Some people make EVERYTHING way too complicated. There have been some threads about how much higher the rear should be from the front in order the change oil or what torque to use on the drain plug.

Not really.
Moisture will not pass thru the paper like oil.
Instead it stops on the paper and the oil pushes it through causing small tears.
The oil can then pass making the hole larger.
Doesn't take much to tear the paper under 40-60 PSI.
Especially when pressing against a 0.020-40" hole.
From that point forward unfiltered oil is being recirculated.
Then over time engine damage is the result.
Lots of moisture collects in engines in humid and cold states.
As a resident of Detroit I remember wiping off the oil/water mud under the filler cap.
Thats more than enough moisture to reek havoc in a filter.
Especially if the change intervals are exceeded.

I have some Mobil 1's, some k&n and a couple discontinued AC Delco UPF44. I picked them up at a discount at the action site. They are all very good filters.
