C5 Heating Problem
Hello Corvette Community,
I have a 2002 Corvette and had an episode where the car overheated to 255+ degrees which caused to leak all the coolant. The day was about 80 degrees outside and had the A/C on full blast.
The next day I filled the radiator with water and turned it on to see where it leaks from and if it overheats. Unfortunately, I had no luck.
Both the low and high fans turn on and the hose next to the thermostat is hot. However, when I turn on the A/C the temperature slowly gradually increases, but not to where it over heats. There are times where the A/C is not competely cold and gets a little warm when the coolant temperature increases.
I really need some help. Please let me know people.

Clean the front of your radiator with a soft brush or compressed air. I think that will solve your problem there. It sounds like it has some garbage blocking it. Charge your A/C, or have it done and checked for leaks. I'd start there.

Does the C5 overhead if driven at highway speeds with the AC on or off? Is this just a low speed/idle overheating? Is the AC more efficient/cooler at highway speeds compared to low speed and idling? Should be at least a 20 degree drop in temperature compared to ambient temperature at the AC vent.

1. Thermostat...make sure its not stuck
2. Hoses...make sure, there are no leaks and are hot (on warm up)
and are not collapsed.
3. Coolant...make sure your coolant is clean and fresh (50/50% of
distilled and Dexcool)
4. Radiator cap...make sure you have a new or working radiator cap.
5. Water pump...,make sure your water pump is working (run engine
with cap off & see the coolant moving).
6. Make sure the radiator is clean...inside and out. Check between
the radiator and the A/C.
Do the above for starters....and get back to us.

Also, I want to fill up the radiator with 50/50 coolant and used the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. So my question is do I bleed it? If so, how and where?
And is there another drain block for the block to remove the coolant that's in there?
