What that means is, if you think it's so lucrative why don't you make some parts, market them, and after you get rich you can lower the price to whatever it costs you to get by. If they weren't selling, they wouldn't be making them.

Again we're talking VW, Audi, BMW. Imports. I'm talking a Chevy. Even the aftermarket parts I bought for my Toyota are a lot cheaper

That all being said..... Anyone have a front splitter that will fit a 2001 for sale real cheap

I get what your saying, aftermarket Corvette parts are more costly than some others. But I'll also add this, anything that is selling isn't overpriced, if it was it wouldn't sell. This comes from a guy that bought a Callaway Honker, $500, to replace my Halltech Stinger, $199ish, to end up putting a SC on the car which has cost me all kinds a $$$$$$$$'s.

For better or worse, the Internet allows a very small operation to look like a much larger manufacturer even while it's still at the make-to-order stage.

You Sir are on the very edge of the naked truth. I do not wish to trash Vette vendors as a class, but have you noticed that you online buy from vendor X and the shipping lable says it came from vendor Y? Honesty and pricing would be a nice improvement!

Why don't the Vette Vendors just tell the truth?

I know a few Vette Vendors that do not play this game. JW Motoring and Double D Mods are among them. Your thread should light a fire under others,,,,,and they know who they are,,,,and we know who they are,,,,,,to price fairly the first time around! We all know Vette parts aren't free but we do know that Vette mods are not made of gold

Pricing around the internet proves my point!

That doesn't bother me that much: I understand the difference between manufacturer-vendors and distributor-vendors. My point was more that what looks like a factory on the Internet may be one guy designing widgets and then making them to order in his garage or farming out the fabrication on a small (and not terribly economical) scale.

I have nothing against one-man operations...BTDT. But when every product sold is effectively a one-off, the price will be higher than necessary, sometimes to the point where straight-up custom may be more cost-effective.

Hey, you were the one who brought up Porsche part prices.

But where a car was made makes a lot less difference to the price of aftermarket stuff than how many of them were made: there are way more Toyotas (of pretty much any model) than there are Corvettes.

I don't mind paying a higher price for quality parts but some of the things I have bought for my Vette really truely aren't worth the cost of the shipping containers they came in, yet they still have 500% mark up on their prices easly...pretty much why im done modding my car now. Just gets old getting ripped off all the time you know?
