I know that this has been brought up many times but what the heck .
I'm always looking for some reason to change or modify my 2001 vert but as always we are looking for a deal. My gripe for the day is the extra costs that we (corette owners) pay for our goodies.
$900.00 - $1,000 for intake manifold ( Fast or Equal) you can get a HP Edelbrock for a big block for $400.00 I just purchased a front CF splitter for my Mini Cooper $275.00 for a vett $600.00+ the list goes on and on...
I have purchased parts for my Porsche 911 at far better prices then for the vett for similar type items .
I know i'm beating a dead horse on this but lower prices may equal more sales that may equal more mods its good for everyone.

While I agree that some of these parts are very expensive, you have to remember that the target audience for them is relatively small in comparison to other vehicles and the cost of production has to be covered somewhere.
I wish the parts were cheaper too, but it is what it is.
Seriously?!? Stock Porsche parts make Corvette racing parts look cheap. DAMHIKT.
Yes, Seriously,
as some standard OEM parts, (starters, heads, engine rebuild kits etc.) do cost a little more, sometimes a lot more for the Porsche but its a import.... there are added shipping costs , out of country manufacturing costs , tarifs etc. etc. etc.
The items that i'm talking about are the aftermarket goodies we all get for our cars Even the aftermarket lower chin spoiler that I purchased for my Porsche was $300.00 in the fiberglass / plastic material. I race my Porsche so I do replace a lot of parts.
I know we are somewhat of a limited market. but $250.00 dollars for the plastic wheel well covers that you glue on with double sided tape inside your engine compartment is a little excessive , looks nice but Dang....
Those of us who don't add aftermarket "improvements" to our cars don't seem to have that problem. When I see the prices of some of that crap I know that sellers are getting wealthy and buyers are willing to pay the "self imposed idiot tax".

I hope you didn't copyright that phrase, because I plan on stealing it.
Corvette parts and lsx parts are generally pretty cheap.
Check out M3 parts if you want to feel better. The CSL airbox alone is a few grand. Headers and other parts we take for granted as basic bolt ons are extremely expensive as well.

Lol, please. Are you actually bragging about having a stock car and saying everyone else is an idiot?
Does that mean that after they recoup their money for the initial setup for manufacturing that the prices will come down ? I won't hold my breath !
I get the impression that a lot of vendors aren't really doing the "setup for manufacturing" thing: they're farming out the production in batches that are too small to ever get to where the economies of scale bring the prices down.
For better or worse, the Internet allows a very small operation to look like a much larger manufacturer even while it's still at the make-to-order stage.
