My oem tires are eleven years old. Not a lot of miles (6400), they are riding hard and noisy. After much research on the forum I believe I made a choice. I obtained a quote for a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. The quote looks good. These are 50 mile run flats. I'm hoping for a quieter ride, still with run flats. Any better ideas?

I am in the same boat with my 01 convertible - 13K miles and tires beyond safe life. I am actually considering BF Goodrich or Hankook non-run flats based on on-line reviews. A small pump or fix a flat for the minimal driving our garage queens see. I started out thinking the Pilot's, but they will need replaced die to age like the stock tires, so why not go less money.

The Michelin tires are very good if you want to stick with runflats. If you would consider non-runflats, the Hankook Ventus V12 EVOs are very good tires and can be had at a really good price.
My '01 has the OEM tires and with 40,000 miles it's time for them to go...will be buying Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's !!...would rather stay away from runflats and just keep a plug kit in the car with a small compressor...had just replaced my OEM shocks a few weeks ago with Z06's and have to take the car to a Corvette shop tomorrow morning to have the DIC messages taken out with a Tech 2...wish these things weren't so damn expensive to buy...hate having to pay someone to do something you can easily do yourself. Good luck !!
I really like my Toyo Proxes. Everyone says the Hankooks are good.
Join AAA, read some threads about 'plugging' a tire on the road, and lose the 'run flats'.
You most likely won't regret it.
not just the ride. it's downright dangerous. tires that age can seperate pretty easy. generally pothole or some impact is what makes them come apart
....having said that, there's no way I'm carrying around a "plug kit and compressor", or "a cell phone and AAA membership card", so I can wait for a tow truck. I'll stick with the runflats.....and just got a set of the Michelin PS2 ZPs. I'm waiting for the snow to clear, and a good rain to wash the salt off the roads, so I can get the car out.
Go with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3s, but don't go run flats. Get the non-run flats they are 10 times quieter/smoother.
The Hankook V12s are great value, but the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 non run flats are the quietest/smoothest tire out there, and the best value in the long run.

I just replaced my OEM's for same reason . Discount tire installed Mich. PS a3's on my 03 coupe (18000 mi.) yesterday. World of difference.I've never had a flat in 45 yrs. but if i do, AAA. By the way,DT matched tire rack price and service was very impressive.

I replaced my original tires after 9 years. They still had plenty of tread, but the ride and noise was terrible. I got Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP (run flats). Amazing ride and grip in all weather, plus the piece of mine of run flats.

I got a flat once. I pulled out my trusty compressor, and three minutes later I was on my way to the tire shop to have it fixed. I didn't even get my hands dirty.

And what kept the air from leaking out again after inflating it to get to tire shop ??

These are the tires I'm leaning towards. Did you notice a difference in the noise level? Thanks.
I have the Hankook V12 and got a great deal from Tirerack.com $710 with shipping to Germany. I had the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. I hated them, glad to replace them. There are a lot of groves on the back roads over here and I had to fight the steering wheel half the time.
When I have the Hankooks installed a much better ride and much better grip in the rain.
For a slow leak, what he did was just fine. You do understand it was a temporary fix to get him to the tire shop for it to be repaired?
Yeah understand it was temporary .. I'm sure it'd work as long as it's a 'slow' leak .. and ... he didn't have to drive a very long distance. If the nail or ?? stays in tire usually not a problem to keep air in it for quite some time .. but if there's nothing in the hole .. well ain't gonna stay up long.

Good for you....several years ago, I was on my way to work (not in the Corvette) and ran over a piece of debris kicked up by the car in front of me, couldn't avoid it. Cut a chunk out of the tread....it would have taken a couple THOUSAND tire plugs, and a cylinder of nitrogen to fix that one. Good thing the car had a spare, even though it was only a &^%$#@!! "doughnut".
