Default C5 or NSX?

Sure I'm on the corvette forum but if your too shallow to to not be able to understand that there are other cars out therr then I won't value your opinion anyway so don't waste your time, please. I have had two C5s and they are great cars but I can't help being attracted to something so unadulterated in it's quest for driver involvement.

NSX is significantly more expensive to own, but it was one of the handful of cars I was considering against the C5 Z06 (in addition to Lotus Elise/Exige and Porsche Cayman/Boxster).

Ultimately I went with the cheaper more common car because I intend to track mine a lot, but for a pure fun street car I would expect the NSX to be a lot more fun with its high rpm short geared mid-engine design. The rarity of the NSX scared me away.

This article should answer some of the questions you may have.

I was totally jonesin' for an NSX, but at 6', 225 I simply wasn't comfortable in the car. It felt like it was built for someone about 5'8" and 150 . .

For a weekender, NSX would be my choice all day long.

I would choose the NSX but parts are very hard to come by and are usually very expensive.

I looked at NSXs when I started this journey and they were 50% more than Corvettes of comparable vintage: at the time (early 2011), a decent example simply wasn't available for less than $30K.

If I could get an NSX for C5 money, I'd seriously think about it.

I am in no position to afford either car right now but when it comes time to buy my toy cost will play a factor but I havent looked into cost of owning an NSX. I prefer to do a lot of my own work on my cars

just for fun lets compare a 427 C6 vert which is where my C5 would end up if I had the ability to do it now. Big wheels, tires and brakes with a little more power under the hood.

vs

NSX with brakes, centri and long tubes and coilovers on both cars.

I am going to look into this a little deeper just to satisfy my curiosity right now and thanks for the NSX link!

And thanks for being objective with the conversation. Real car guys that can truly appreciate the driving experience

Depends what you want. If you want an original car, overpriced, and hard to find, then NSX. As far as maintenance and durability, Corvette wins by far. Most year models the Vette wins the speed comparison. My choice is the Vette, more bang for your buck, so to say.

If it weren't so expensive and hard to get parts, I would def get an NSX. The looks especially for a 90's car is still fantastic, and imo doesn't really look dated.

One day I was going to a massive briefing and when I parked my car a couple people asked if my Z was an NSX, I chuckled and replied that I wish it were.... Only because they're still worth quite a bit.

If you want to buy the NSX as an investment then absolutely go for it! It will increase signigicantly in value in the coming years. It has already begun. It's value has almost doubled in the last 5 years. You cannot go wrong with an NSX as long as you buy an original, unmolested and accident-free car. If it has been in a wreck, walk away!

If you're just looking for a fun car, you're probably better sticking with a C5 or C6. The NSX will not impress you if you're used to gobs of torque. Bang for the buck, the Corvette is still unbeatable.

Personally, I would trade in my C5 for an NSX in a heartbeat if the price was right. But, for me it would be a question of collectibility and rarity, not performance.

We've run against an NSX at Road Atlanta and we were impressed. I like mid engine cars and have owned a Pantera for some 25 years. Personally, I prefer the Pantera over the NSX for a number of reasons including I like to go drag racing and the NSX would never be able to compete and mechanically survive more than a few runs.

Actually thought about buying one in the early 90's to join the Pantera in the garage but the local dealership were total dicks and I said screw that idea. They had it locked in the showroom so you could not even get in or look at the engine. When I asked to be able to look around the car they said the Manager had the keys. I asked where he was and they said at lunch. I just said you guys just screwed up a potential sale and left.

And that right there is the number one reason I have a Corvette as a daily driver.

The 32 mpg highway and ability to work on it in the driveway sure don't hurt either...

Ok, I only read the first few replays to this thread

You've already had 2 C5's which is good. But you didn't mention things that are important to you in owning a car. Like Intial cost, power/speed etc....
I have owned both and at the same time. I'll go look for pics in a minute.
First off the NSX is not that expensive to own. It never seems to break. But when things wear out they are more pricey than a Chevelot product yes. Clutch 2k, rear tires every 10k miles, timing belt service( every 5 yrs if I remember right at 1500 aprox ) etc......

But it is a car that is night and day difference as far as involment and just plain *** attention getter. Especially with some tasteful mods. They are relatively slow on the straights (13 to 14 sec 1/4 ) but on the back roads and city streets Watch Out!!!
I had a TT C5 and NA NSX and most of my time was in the X, you just can't go wrong in an X. Not to mention they are an asset now as their prices are climbing. Buy now and you prolly won't ever lose your money even tho you're adding miles to it.

Nsx is borderline exotic and looks like a lot of fun. I would choose the Honda in this case and that's something I thought I would never say.

The NSX is extremely expensive to maintain. I looked at a few and know a bunch of people that own them. Surprisingly they all love my Corvette.

The Corvette can out handle an NSX too though. The C5 is more than just power. At most HPDE's I go to C5's are still the dominant car.
