Drove my C5 today for about 2 hours, came home left car on driveway, went to start it and would not start, would not even turn over, nothing. A friend told me to disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes, i did and than it started. Any ideas what went wrong.

You need to give us "a load more info.", before we could give a guesstimate.
Battery.....test it.
DIC codes.....if you have any codes, post them here.

Any interior lights or other accessories working when it happened?
If your battery is low then it needs to be fully charged to do the load test at the auto store. I consider a full charge to provide about 12.7 volts or more at the battery once you remove the charger.
DO NOT charge a dead battery in the car without disconnecting the negative battery cable. The charger produces DC square waves a dead battery cannot filter and mitigate. You can fry the electronics by pounding them with square waves.
Jiggle around the positive lead(red wire)from the battery as far down near the starter as you can. If that doesn't start it, open the passenger floorboard where the electronics are and gently move some of those wires. Don't disconnect, just 'massage' them a bit.
Or it could possibly be the crankshaft position sensor. Check your codes.
To start I suggest that you first test your battery and terminal connections and if it shows 12 volts then it is something else.
Try cleaning the pellet of your key or try your spare key.
Open the cover under you passenger side floor and check the related fuses. You can also check the relay at the top left, just above the BCM to see if it is ok.
If you have power and can operate the windows, power seats, radio, lights etc then it is probably your starter solenoid. GM does not sell solenoids alone so you will have to replace the entire starter/solenoid together. Save yourself a lot of money by not purchasing from your local dealer who will probably want around $400. You should be able to find a new OEM starter for $250-$300 or a re-built for $150-$175 if it does turn out to be the starter solenoid. Did you hear any odd whining noises recently?
