Default Car rolls back

So I always leave my car in gear, and once in a while my car will slide back in my driveway. Never enough to do damage but it is just weird that this happened. Any reason behind this?

Isn't it obvious? Your car and your house aren't getting along.

6 speed or auto? I bet the problem is that your car just wants to go out and drive some more!

Guess it's pretty obvious that it's a 6 speed, huh? One of those days, need to finish my coffee haha

Yep, it's called gravity and poorly adjusted/functioning parking brake. Leaving it in gear will prevent it from gaining any speed but the cylinders will leak compression, specially on a cold engine and allow it to rotate so very slightly and the car will move. Have your parking brakes serviced/adjusted and the demons that move your car should disappear. Also consider set of wheel chucks if the driveway is very steep. The way things should work is the brake should hold the car and the leave in gear thing is just for safety in case the brake fails.

Yeah I leave it in 1st gear. 6 speed thanks for the replies. Didn't know if it had anything to do with something going bad.

Agree with reply above, you need to have the park brakes adjusted on the rear wheels. Easy DIY or any brake shop can do quickly.

For some arbitrarily low value of "easy": the rotors have to come off, which involves that caliper bracket bolt on each side with the 150ftlb torque spec.

I leave mine in gear and use the e-brake every time I get out. Mine does NOT move.

I tow in neutral. I use four regular straps and an extra strap both front and rear (6 total - yes I know, overkill). I used to cross the straps but no longer do so, as I had the car walk sideways some when there was more pressure on that side (using d rings spread towards sides), due to poor road conditions. I have etrack in my trailer that eliminates that possibility now as they are directly in line with my hook up points. Straps should have snap hooks not just hooks on the end as if they loosen, the hooks will drop right off. I always check everything after about 20 miles and at every fuel stop thereafter. Just towed my '61 to Carlisle, then to Delaware, and then back home. Car remained where it was secured.

What gear do most 6 speed owners leave their trans in when parking, the lowest gear (R) or the highest gear (6)? It would seem the lowest gear would require more engine revolutions to roll, but in a higher gear there is more resistance because of the ratio. I'm too lazy to look, but I'll bet there is a recommendation in the owners manual.

I echo the comment on getting the e-brake adjusted properly and then use it each time you park your car. It should not roll at all with the e-brake engaged.
