The radio antenna on my 2000 Vert is stuck in the extended position and I am unable to force it back down. I've disconnected the power to it and do not need it to operate as I only use XM radio. Any ideas?
If you truly don't need it to work, take off the large nut at the base, lift it up and pull the antenna and ribbon cable out. Collapse the antenna and then cut off the plastic ribbon cable and insert it back in the hole and tighten the nut. Or you could fix it by replacing the cable and mast for about 20 bucks, if the ribbon is the problem. There's a very good pictorial how to on replacing the mast (I think it was done by 8vette7, but maybe not, try a search).

I'll give that a try. I want to get it down as soon as possible before it gets damaged and becomes a real challenge.
I don't know if you've tried it yet, but here's what I'd try first. Turn on the key, have someone turn on the radio (if it's connected to the antenna to automatically raise) while you pull up on the mast tip. Then have them turn off the key or the radio and push down firmly as soon as you turn it off. If it goes down, disconnect the plug just forward of the antenna so it doesn't go up again if you turn the radio on.
I should have asked before that first post: Does it make any sort of noise when you turn the radio off and on? In other words, does the motor turn but nothing move, or is there no motor noise at all?

Thanks for your help. Your first idea worked well and I was able to collapse the antenna after the nut was loosened. I also reached in through the right taillight and disconnected the power. Problem appears solved.
