Like the title says...... What does it really do? And why is it so popular?

Not sure if it's just a marketing thing, but some people here swear by it.

It's the "cleans sulfur deposits from gas gauge sensors" meme that shows up the most often here.
How important that is has more to do with the petrol-swill you're pumping in than any particular feature of the Techron itself. At least around here, sulfur in the gas is really not an issue.

I agree it's because it works to keep deposits off the fuel sending sensors. I've been using it for years and never had any gas gauge problems.

I get a "check engine" light in my high mileage Nissan if I don't run a bottle through it once a month. It'll start to stumble occasionally at idle and a few days later the light comes on. After about half a tank the hesitation is gone and the light goes out. I drive the Corvette more rarely, so a couple bottles a year are enough.
