The air in my c5 is no longer blowing cold so I'm thinking I have a slow leak. I purchased a can of inter-dynamics 134 a with Leak sealer and UV dye. Got home and saw that the reviews are terrible most of the complaints seem to be about that nozzle and getting it on your hands and engine bay. I'm not worried about that I'll wear gloves and put plastic down. But some people say it's a bad idea to use the the leak sealer any advice?
Your better off getting just the R134 with the UV dye in it. Be prepared if you don't find the leak in the engine bay it will be inside the car and that will be $$$$. OR you could take it to a pro with a R134 sniffer.

I agree with trying to find the leak with dye but a sniffer?????

The leak detector is the way to go. Although today I watched a commercial ac guy find a leak with a spray bottle of soapy water and an inspection mirror.
The gm compressors love leaking from the compressor shaft seal behind the clutch. Examine all connections. Look for oil and dirt build up at the connections. 90% of all leaks can be found by looking for an
oily connection.

A year ago I was where you are at now. I bought a set of gauges and 3 cans of 134. Two of them with sealant. And I put in 2 1/2 of those cans I think it was. I had AC all summer long and wondered if it would work this year? (hold the charge) AFTER I had put this stuff in the AC system, I read bad reviews of 134 with sealer, saying that it would plug up things and cause problems. I turned on the AC for the first time last week, and it is still charged and working very well. I think if the Freon with sealer was really hurting AC systems there would be some legal actions against the vendors of this type of product.
I am not saying that my method is the best or even right method. But it is still working for me at this point in time.

If you go have to take it to a shop, don't tell them you put sealer in it. They probably won't work on it if you do.
Take it to a shop have them recover the system vacuum and add a/c dye and recharge and return when the a/c performance decreases or in a month or so . You dont want to keep the system undercharged or overcharged . If you were not so far i would have been more then happy to have helped you out . Take it some where and get it done right . Some of the leaks can be caused by cars being stored and seals get dry and leak . Newer cars now kick the a/c on automatically when switched to defrost its not just to keep the system running and everything lubricated but it does that too .
