I have used mine for 10 years and love it. I also use two smaller ones, one for the interior and one for the wheels. The key to remember is that it is not a cleaner, just a duster. Use it lightly and wash the car when necessary.
My car is black as well and the duster works quite well. I tend to wipe the car down every night when I put it to bed. Mine is my DD and people who see it every day are always asking how I keep my car so clean. As long as it hasn't gotten wet, a quick wipe-down every night keeps it spotless!! No scratches or swirl marks.....ever!!
One other teacher even said she was ashamed to park her Mustang next to me 'cause it always looks like it needs a wash when sitting next to my 'Vette.
It works great. Have been using one for quite some time. I make it a point to wash it every so often when it starts to look grungy. I handwash it separately in a small bucket with cold water and mild detergent. Then rinse, squeeze out excess water, and hang dry for a couple of days.
I've used a duster for so many years on various cars I can't remember when I bought my first one. I still have it, it's the small one for the interior. I also have a bigger one for the body. Love it.
I also use the duster and it works almost as well as an ostrich feather duster but in a car friendly shape. One of the first things I throw in the trunk when I buy a car.
I was curious about the cautions about water.
The only caution I ever heard with water was to not let the minerals get into the paint. What further cautions might I need to be aware of? I sometimes get a lot of fog and moisture overnight, with some salts being carried , so I need a fresh water wash once in a while. I would like to understand the potential problems better., if there is more to it than the minerals. Thanks in advance.

Lightly dust, let the strings "hang" to do their job. Removes dust and loose particles.
Then follow with a "detailer" product and microfiber towel.
Mine is garage-kept and never sees rain, so when I arrive back home, I go through the process. Looks clean and new, ready to make the next trip.
Good luck

X10 here... whatever brand you get, remember it's made for dusting, NOT REMOVING BUGS! mine will soon be 20 years old... I store it in a great big ol' zip-loc bag and have never washed it.
