I keep mine in the case that came with it. Also, if I remember right, it says in the instructions not to wash it, that it works better and better as it gets dirtier. This sure seems to have been my experience anyway.

Love mine. Had it about 5 years and it works like a charm. Takes about a minute (if that) to do the entire car. They also work great in the house.

I've also got two, one large one for the exterior and a smaller one for the interior. They are invaluable during pollen season. I've never had a problem with it damaging the paint in any way.

I have used the California Duster for years as well and love it for removing light dust after sitting in the garage for a few days. Also have the small one that I used less frequently on and around the dash.
It appears that there is overwhelming support for use of the California Duster!

Been using a microfiber duster (looks very similar to California car duster) that I got from Griots Garage, love it. Works great.

I would be skeptical about washing it because it would remove some of the parifin wax which is what makes it work. They are said to work better as they get older although 16+ years is stretching the life . It's time to retire it and buy a new one. I am on my second one in 25 years.

The boss has one of the smaller sized ones she uses in the house to dust furniture.

This is on the mini duster package, I just soak the ends of the fibers in woolite overnight & let air dry.

I washed my Cal duster and it ruined it, seemed to not be as "absorbent" as before. So i just replace about every 6 months or so. I use it on my black and white cars, works great, no scratches.

Mine had over 16 years of dust and dirt on it and I was planning to get a new one anyway so I tried washing it in cold water with mild detergent. It still seems to work just fine, but I am still getting a new one. Probably just use the old one on the grocery getter.

Naturally they want to sell you a new one , so go ahead and wash it if you don't know what to do with your money!

I just picked up a new one at Walmart for 12 bucks. Heckova deal. It does seem to work better than the old one I had washed.

I have one and it's a life saver here in north Texas. Leave your car outside for an hour and it will be covered in dust/pollen a foot thick. I haven't noticed any scratches or swirls from using it on my black car. I think the key is making sure you aren't pressing hard while using it

I have a pacific cost duster that is basically the same thing and after I use it I blow it off or out with compressed air to make sure it stays a clean as possible.

If mine got a lot of dust on it, I will fire up the compressor and use the air gun to blast off most of the dust, then use the duster. Takes 5 min. max.

My '73 is black and I use it all the time. Never scratches. You just don't want to use it right after you've driven the car and it's hot.

There are also Microfiber Dusters on the market that you can wash, I do not own one currently but may be what I will try next.

I also use the Pledge Multi Surface Dusters you use in the house to remove brake dust from my wheels.

I've been using one for years and it works great and cleans off the car quickly. In 5 minutes you can go from dusty to completely clean. Just make sure you shake it out regularly and don't let any sand or other abrasive particles get lodged in the duster. That is what could do damage but if you're diligent about keeping "clean" then they're perfect. I always keep one in my trunk.
