Default Shifting Problems..

Hello all,

My C5 Z06 has problems shifting from 1st to 2nd. When it is warmed up, when I shift into 2nd...sometimes it wants to go into 4th. I have changed clutch fluid, transmission fluid, adjusted the shifter linkage, replaced the stock shifter with a breathless performance shifter (which is awesome) and no change. There is no grinding of gears, its like it has a 45 degree cam that rides it into 4th. The car has only 10,000 miles on it. I bought it when there was 7,000 and it was like that from the start. Any help would be appreciated.

As always with you fine people, thank you in advance for your input.

Dhasso

You have the dreaded 1-4 gear shift still activated aka CAGS... it comes stock on these cars to promote better mpg's. Do a search on 1-4 gear skip shift bypass Your car is not broken!!

You need one of these....

Your problem is that you are driving your stock Z06 too much like a grandma

Either hold off on the 1-2 shift for a couple hundred more rpm or delete CAGS

I recommend tuning it out and getting more power while you're at it, personally

Any competent GM tuner with EFILive or HPTuners can get rid of it and hook you up with more performance

CAGS will activate under the following conditions:

- The vehicle speed is between 15-19 mph
- The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is greater than 171 F
- The barometric pressure is greater than 76 kPa
- The accelerator pedal position (APP) is less than 26 percent

I believe at that throttle position (26%, as F&Yb0dluvr stated), it takes effect at 2000RPM and the 1-4 Skip Shift light will come on, but if you stay on it, even at the same "normal driving" throttle position, the light will go off at like 2500RPM I believe. I just dealt with the Skip Shift until I got my car tuned. It's an annoying feature but thats what kept the C5 away from the dreaded Gas Guzzler Tax!

I personally don't mind it, the more money I save on gas the more money I have for mods. I usually shift 1-4-6 and average 25mpg in my 01 vert. When some punk tries to pass me in an SRT-8 Charger like what happened last week I just hammer it and bang second and he sees my taillights...haha. I'll probably tune it out when I put headers on soon though..
