I have never had my center console get so hot it almost burns. It has gotten warm is all. But as long as there is nothing wrong mechanically with the car, a good insulation kit should help keep the temp of the console down to acceptable levels.
I bought mine in the winter and did dynamat, Frost King and Reflectix mod so I have never really noticed the heat. I can tell you for sure that it insulates and sound deadens very well. It's a pretty cheap modification and you can do it in an afternoon. Lots of write ups on it.
Awesome, thanks ET. It seems to be right next to the shifter (wearing shorts today). Next mods on the list is an x-pipe and high flow cats. I will call Finishline Coatings today and see what it will cost to ceramic coat.
I think coating the pipes, installing insulation, and the tunnel plate, I should get the inside temps down a bit. My console is black with gray interior. I was thinking of doing some insulator/pimp factor tunnel pieces as well.
Something like this
BTW, that ZR1 had a full custom interior that was insane. He traded in a Ferrari, put $200k into the interior and still had money in the bank from the trade. He said it was the best purchase he ever made.
$200K into the interior of a ZR1?! What could he have possibly bought that would cost that much? He would run out of room before he ran out of money. $20K maybe as there are members in C5 forum who have spent that on their interiors.

He said he had everything changed but the top of the dash. He paid some shop in Canada to do the work, I am guessing a lot of his expense was labor and idiot tax.
The only exterior mods he did were a real carbon spoiler and carbon mirrors.
He could have just been full of ****, too. What other people chose to do with their money is not my call, but I do find it funny sometimes.

It doesn't actually burn, but it's damn hot to the touch. I am looking to pick up an x-pipe next week, so I will get that ceramic coated and do the insulation under, then when I get my seats, I'll pull the carpet and insulate the inside.
Its the cats that get hot. if you wear shorts in the summer and lean your right leg on the console skirt it is very hot. I made a heat blanket ( heavy duty tin foil and a Styrofoam insulation sheet. )to put between the cats and the tunnel area ( under the car. And I added some insulation between the rug and the tunnel on the inside.
it gets even hotter if you have long tube headers like I do. The insulation helps a lot.
I have commented on this thread before that my car gets hot in that same spot, I do not believe it is as hot as the OP is but its gets pretty warm.
Today here in Alabama it was a pretty warm day ( finally) and did make it into the 90's. Wife and I tool the Corvette out for a drive, we had been gone for an hour or so and I noticed that the console was getting really warm. I usually drive with the window down even though I do have the air on as well. It was a hot day so I ran the window up. After 1/2 hour or so I noticed that the console was not even warm. So I rolled the window down and sure enough in about 10 minutes it was hot again. So I ran a little experiment, seems like it takes about 10 minutes for the console to get really warm, and that is with the window down. Roll the window up and it does take longer for it to cool down but it did every single time takes about 30 minutes for it to cool down. Kind of puzzling but interesting at the same time.
