Soooo.. When I turn my car on, my wipers are automatically coming on and won't turn off. I read up on this and found out that I needed to "milk the udders" underneath the washer motor .. So I did this and was able to sqeeze out a bunch of leaves and other crap.. This stopped the issue for 4 or. 5 days but now the problem is back.. I checked udders ( or whatever they're called) again , and they're clear .. Bad windshield wiper motor? Help guys
If the udders were plugged up and the wiper well stayed filled with water (car wash or rain) the wiper motor was likely submerged. You could try taking the motor out and apart and check/clean up contacts that may have gotten corroded.
That is a common problem when the udders need cleaned. The motor can usually be dried out with no problems , but the module which is attached to the motor should always be changed. It is still available through GM Part # 12367295 . ( $150.00 ) I changed mine with only 29k. miles . The udders didn't get clogged , but the rubber umbrella that covers the motor was installed wrong at the factory allowing the water to enter the motor from the windshield above. Make sure that umbrella is installed over the motor and not tucked under which is what they did at the factory on mine.
I have a similar problem; whenever I turn the ignition key, the wipers come on and the washer fluid sprays until the reservoir is empty. The wipers and the reservoir pump both remain on while the car is running. Any ideas?
Did you read post 2 or post 4 above????????? I'm guessing NOT.......
Mine was the wiper switch on the column. There is are pictures and info. to replace this switch on this C5 forum. Not really a bad job to replace switch just be real careful taking switch out of column. Good luck!
BigWat6,
my wipers started turning on intermittent for a while, and then after a while all the time when the ignition was on. I checked the udders first, but all was dry. I traced it back to the wiper stalk. It turned out to be the end cap which, when pushed in, turns on both the wipers and the fluid sprayer pump. I removed the end cap by prying it out with a small screw driver, not hard to do. Be careful, as there are two springs which can "spring" away. There are two pairs of contacts in the stalk, one for the wiper motor and one for the fluid pump, which make contact when the end button is pushed in or removed. I placed a small piece of paper between each pair of contacts until I could locate a new end button. This let me operate the windshield wipers normally, as the contacts are only for the fluid pump and wiper action during the fluid pump.
The end cap is not available, so I bought a used wiper stalk just for the end cap. I could not tell the difference between my old one and the new used one, but it fixed it.
I found that end cap on the floor along with both springs. Looks like the end cap will not remain seated, it pops off. I'm going to get a new or used one, thanks!
I purchased a new switch online, much cheaper than the dealer. Took a few hours to gain access, but replacing the wiper switch was the solution, works fine now--thanks to all that contributed!
