The air dams don't direct air into the radiator, they create a low pressure area behind them and the radiator, therefore pulling air through. The middle dam does the most but the sides will further reduce pressure (more vacuum).
Not sure about the vacuum part but the lower pressure behind the air dam is what gets the air moving through the radiator. Anything that you add as far in front of the radiator as a splitter or "lip" will probably only diminish the effect of the factory air dam.

Don't park close to parking blocks.
Avoid tall speed bumps.
Enter/exit driveways slowly and at an angle.
Don't drive over road kill.
I have never "knocked it off" but depending on where you live and drive; scraping the bottom is certainly going to happen from time to time. You need to plan driving carefully to avoid steep inclines/declines and speed bumps etc.
thanks every one for all the replies, I put my center dam back on, now the cooling is way down 190, I figure with the dam its prolly going to run cooler. thanks again every one !!!
how exectly di you put that lip on? when I put mine on I used bolts and had to drill into the bumper, you cant see the wholes, but I was just wondering how your lip went on.
love the look but wont do it because of the potential grief. Ive thought long and hard, but wisdom won out. Those that can get around with it, I envy you. Its a nice looking upgrade.
