Default TPMS batteries

I have a 2001 C5 with just under 10k miles that has never had anything done to the TPMS sensors. What will happen when the batteries start to fail? No issues now, but I've read the batteries last 7-10 years, my car will be 14 in Dec.
Thank You,

What will happen is when each battery dies, you will not get a display on the dash with that tire's pressure. That's all.

....and you will get a warning that your tire is flat and not to drive over 55.

Disagree, it won't say it's flat because you'll get no signal from it. XXX will show on the dash. No warnings, no speed restriction.

If I remembered correctly "Service Tire Monitoring System" was shown on the DIC and after I'd push reset, XXX would read for that tire.

I agree. That happened when I had my '98. At least the sensors after 2000 are cheaper than the early C5

That's what should happen with a bad battery.

Thanks Guys,

The last time I bought tires for one of these, the tire place insisted on "rebuilding" the sensors. I came back when they said the work would be finished and watched the installer do nothing to the sensor of the last wheel.
For $5 a wheel, I knew it couldn't amount to much. When I told the salesman they hadn't touched the sensors, he said they could break the beads and do the rebuild (basically replace a seal), or refund the $20. I took the refund because I knew that wouldn't extend the life of the sensors.
I'll deal with it when it happens, just wanted to know what to expect.

When they say "rebuild the sensor", they mean put an "o" ring on it.

My C6 DIC told me my tire was flat about a month ago. I hit the reset button and the DIC went back to correct reading. Mine is an '05 and I plan to replace the tires and TPM batteries in the next month or so.

Is replacing the TPM batteries a difficult procedure once the old tires are removed?
What kind of batteries are in the TPMs?

Part 2, 3 & 4 are on the right and should be the first three.

I believe most folks just have the whole thing replaced. A set of 4 with install runs about $240 if the tires are dismounted, specifically for replacing the sensors.

This is what happened to me, although for the last three weeks, that warning hasn't returned. Nonetheless, I am budgeting for the replacement of all 4 sensors.

Mine were half that and install was free when I put the new tires on. I agree you might as well replace the units. They are getting pretty old after all.
