Default Radio Code?

How do I find the radio code in my 2004? I need to remove the radio in order to access the CD plug-in port but do not have the code from the former owner. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

Reading your owners manual might help.

Theft-Deterrent Feature
THEFTLOCK is designed to discourage theft of your
radio. It works by using a secret code to disable all radio
functions whenever battery power is removed.
The THEFTLOCK feature for the radio may be used or
ignored. If ignored, the system plays normally and the
radio is not protected by the feature. If THEFTLOCK is
activated, your radio will not operate if stolen.
When THEFTLOCK is activated, the radio will display
LOC to indicate a locked condition anytime battery
power has been interrupted. If your battery loses power
for any reason, you must unlock the radio with the secret
code before it will operate.
Activating the Theft-Deterrent Feature
The instructions which follow explain how to enter your
secret code to activate the THEFTLOCK system. It is
recommended that you read through all nine steps
before starting the procedure.
If you allow more than 15 seconds to elapse between
any steps, the radio automatically reverts to time and
you must start the procedure over at Step 4.
1. Write down any three or four-digit number from
000 to 1999 and keep it in a safe place separate from
the vehicle.
2. Turn the ignition to ACC or ON.
3. Turn the radio off.
4. Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold them down
until --- shows on the display. Next you will use the
secret code number which you have written down.
5. Press MN and 000 will appear on the display.
6. Press MN again to make the last two digits agree
with your code.
7. Press HR to make the first one or two digits agree
with your code.
8. Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the
code matches the secret code you have written down.
The display will show REP to let you know that you
need to repeat Steps 5 through 7 to confirm your
secret code.
9. Press AM-FM and this time the display will show
SEC to let you know that your radio is secure. The
LED indicator by the volume control will begin
flashing when the ignition is turned off.

Also, it is possible the codes were never set. I have owned a couple of C5s, and neither had the codes set. There is also a procedure (rather complicated if I remember correctly) to reset a radio that has locked because of the code. Try a search. Looks like dadaroo has already done that.

Good luck.

No idea why even have one. Its not like someone is really going to break in and steal it?

I'm sure you already know already know about calling the Chevy dealer. Thats what i did and then wrote it in my manual so I don't forget it. Although its tough if in a bind they're closed.

Good luck hope you get her up and on soon.

There is a small green LED on the radio face plate at about the 2 O'clock position. That LED will be either ON or OFF with no key in the ignition. If it is on then THEFTLOCK is enabled and you need the secret pass code to unlock the radio if the battery is disconnected/dies. There is a way to unlock the radio if you do not have the pass code. See the link that Dadaroo provided above.............
Gee Chuck, what don't you know? Where did you find out about that tribal knowledge? Not in my FSM or in any Thread I have seen before.

Just looked back at what I posted from the OM. I think that is what you are referring to in step 9. Never bothered to read that far since I don't have my radio set to lock. And I recommended he read the OM. I'll take the whipping now.

There is no flashing light on the radio, so apparently the code has not been set. Thanks to all who replied.

Good that you found that the Theft-Loc feature was not enabled - makes it so much easier to just disconnect the battery power and not have to worry about remembering the code.

But if I recall correctly, when the Theft-Loc is enabled, the small LED light flashes red.

Is there really that much of a market for stock stereos? Lots of cars have this feature...

Great! I have been trying to find out if my radio is locked but all I got was a run around until I read this. If your radio flashes in the right hand corner then it is locked, now I know. Thanks
