Talk like that is giving in to the distracted/aggressive drivers. I refuse to give in to what I have enjoyed all of my life and as I said before , if they hit me they better run over me again and make sure I'm dead.

I've got both - 6 speed 2001 convertible and a Road Glide. I've been riding since 15, with a 22 year break before starting again. Love the car but it's just not the same as riding the bike.

I had both (C5 & Harley) until this spring when I sold the bike. Loved both of them but my area is starting to get to crowed for me and a bike. I have rod for the past 45 years and always knew you have to ride like you are invisible because drivers DON'T SEE YOU. With so many people here where I live now it has gotten much too dangerous for me that was the biggest reason I sold it. My C5 is a vert so I still get the open air I did on the bike.

I have been looking at Harley's for a while. I am an early riser and enjoy some me time before the family gets up. The thought of a ride in the morning and late evening to clear my head and relax is a real draw to the Harley. I am just not sure I would get that same feeling with any car. If I went with a C5 then it would have to be a vert and 6 speed.

Granted the Harley probably has more minuses compared to a C5 when it comes to multi use but, I remember the feeling of being on a bike years ago albeit a sport bike.

I also miss being a regular on this forum. I spent years here while building the C3 and have yet to find a forum of any subject i.e. Harley, weight lifting\fitness, or other cars that is as friendly and helpful as this one. Some are just filled with rude A$$es!

Ok like I said, this is more whining\venting than anything else. but comments are always welcome.

Thanks,

Hey there,

I would have agreed with most about having both until my last accident. I have ridden all my life and loved it. Was even a factory-trained Harley mechanic for a good many years.

I was sitting behind a Ford Explorer at a red light when I heard an engine behind me revving up instead of down for a stop. Had just enough time to glance in my mirror, see a big red Dodge Ram closing on me and wonder, "Is this where I die?" Then he slammed into me at approx. 30 mph (according to the cop). Bounced me off the back of the Ford and I landed on the roof of the sedan next to it, slid down the windshield and off the front out into the middle of the intersection. When I landed on the car, the little old lady inside started screaming and didn't stop for quite a while!! Felt kinda bad for her.

Obviously it was a drunk driver. He had spent all afternoon watching football and drinking. Bike was totaled, shoulder got surgically reconstructed, and I bought a new bike and continued to ride for a while. Situations still happened from stupid people just not paying attention and I finally traded the bike in on a 'Vette and haven't looked back.

That was after 45 years of riding, four bike wrecks (none of which was I at fault or ticketed for), two right shoulder reconstructions and insurance settlements.

Just too many stupid people out there who just don't give a ****. And now you got teenagers with their attention glued to the current text on their I-phone!!!!!!!! I'm a teacher, I know all about kids and their cell phone addictions!!!!!

Cell phones are absolutely the worst thing to happen to our youth since HEROIN!!!!!

Decided "I'm done, bikes gotta go!!"

Sorry for the length of this.

That's exactly why you never sit directly behind the center of the vehicle in front of you when you are sitting at a red light. Anyone that has rode a motorcycle for any length of time usually knows that. You need an escape route if you feel a threat from behind so you sit to the right so you can move to the right side of the car ahead of you. If you sit in the center you have no place to go. It's sad , but that is the worst threat of riding a motorcycle today and you have to be prepared for it if you are determined to keep riding.

Wasn't in the center!! Was in the left side wheel track and was trying to turn the bars to the gap between lanes at impact!! Probably saved my life. It all happened way too quickly even for 45 years worth of riding instinct to make a difference!!

You should ask before assuming that the rider was in an inappropriate position!!!!!!!! Or doing something too stupid to even be conceived!!!!! Who died and left you the ultimate authority on riding with the right to assume that everyone else is doing it wrong?!?!?!?

If you sit to the right, you are less visible and therefore more likely to be hit. I sit to the left and stare at my mirrors.

Thanks for the support and back-up man!! That other comment was exactly the same kind of thing that John Q Public is always saying, all the while thinking that bikers are scum and must, therefore, somehow be the one who was at fault!!! I'm not saying that is what he meant, but that is how it came off and is one of my immediate hot buttons!! Which, is another reason I decided to 86 the bikes. I literally had one lady make definite eye contact with me, shrug and make a dismissive facial expression, and pull out in front of me anyway from a side road! I still don't know how I kept from going down avoiding her and the only reason I didn't chase her down is that I know I would have beaten her to death for her stupidity and casual disregard for the lives of others, and would be in jail for it to this day!!!!! But I would have had a big satisfied smile on my face for having gotten a little justice and taken care of a "too stupid to live amongst others" situation!!

WOW!!! I didn't know all that was still in there!!!!!!

Left Right it doesn't matter, just never in the center. I prefer to the right because it gives you a clear escape , and to the left you risk a head on collision when you make a quick escape. It's not a casual move your going to make when you spot someone about to rear end you at 50 mph.

Show me where I was saying that you was sitting in the center of the road. I was generally speaking that it was the wrong thing to do and was not in any way directed at you. I already assumed with your over forty years of riding that you would have already known that. Some of you guys are so sensitive that you take everything personal. Leave that for the girls !

I commute on mine

It's easier to get through traffic than the Z06 and gets 40mpg

I just keep my head on a swivel and ride VERY defensively

I've been run off the road once and pulled in front of more times than I can count, but have been fortunate enough to plan ahead in those situations and come out unscathed

Most people who are going to screw you over are visible a mile away because they so obviously aren't paying attention

Personally I like the options...

Some days I prefer to ride the scooter. While others I prefer the Vert...

The there are days when I feel like styling in my Coupe, that's the OperaCoupe. LOl

In many ways I'm a modest person and certainly not a wealthy man although having these options available to me, along with a nice looking young scadolle alongside me allows me to fantasize being one...

Hahaha Enough for tonight although I must mention that some days I just want comfort, elegance and power of The Benz, the later model 500SEL Sedan. Its a very comfortable vehicle that kinda makes me feel like I'm driving a mini limousine.

Now back to reality and all my daily concerns.... Lol

Enjoy your evening.

Not the way it sounded or came off!!! If I misjudged your statement or intent, then I apologize. However, you need, then, to be more careful in constructing your replies and the wording you use to convey your thoughts. No harm, no foul. Admittedly, after 45 years of riding, I have a few hot buttons when it comes to the consideration and safety of those on two wheels on our common roads and thruways. I have heard the words "I just didn't see him" so many times that I just want to respond, "Okay, then you won't see the 45 slug coming at the front of your forehead that will completely solve the problem!" I have very little patience for apathy or stupidity born of lack of consideration for others. I constantly try to convey to my students that their actions have consequences to others, whether intended or not and that you cannot just go bumbling blindly through life without adversely affecting others!!!!! In other words, they and their cell phones are not the only things that matter in this world!!!!!!

P.S. I personally think that for a teenager to have a cell phone, they should have to go through a licensing regimen at least as rigorous as that to attain a concealed carry permit for a firearm!! Cell phone distraction has already proven to be much more deadly to the average citizen than a misused legal firearm!! And we just give 'em out like candy!!!!!

Well said, I couldn't agree more !!!

Kids (and adults acting like kids) with phones in cars, the talking, texting, and distracted driving; frighten me to death.
Like the drunk, he is the 'last' one to know he's had 'too many' to drive. People driving distracted (texting and talking), are unsafe, and all the facts bare that out. This texting thing is like an epidemic in our society, and innocent victum counts are mounting daily.
One wonders how many more deaths and maiming of people, before we do something meaningful about this?
