Default How to replace headlamp door ???

a so-called "shop" tried to fix a lighting issue and left me with this epoxied-up mess. Light only opens halfway up. Looks like the whole thing needs replacement. How tough a job is this gonna be. What should I pay for a new (used) assembly. I'm pissed but I can't take it back to the same idiots. Was a "free" fix from the car lot where I bought the car. Guess I'm stuck and on my own at this point.

I would take the car to a reputable body shop and see if they can correct the problem. Might end up less expensive then buying a used piece and installing it yourself.

That would be a good place to start. Find a shop that knows Corvettes.

The paint might be saved by a professional

Looks like the back tab on the lid is missing. Is that what they used the epoxy for?
I've fixed cracked ones with epoxy, some carbon fiber cloth for reinforcing, heat and a little vacuum bagging but not one completely separated and/or missing.

So was the original problem the headlight only opening halfway or is that something happening as result of the "work" done?
That lid will come off by removing the three screws holding the black plastic shroud, removing the shoud then removing the two remaining torx screws on each side of the lid.

HTH.

That lid is broken and junk.

Find a black lid in our forum for sale section. Expect to pay ~$50 for it. Installation is a few easily accessible screws that you can do yourself.

If it still has issues not opening all the way it's a different issue.

Both door opened OK when I first got the car. They were "fixing" my parking lights that would not shut off. And this is a result of their work. Looks to me like I'll have to chisel through the epoxy to get the screws out.. hopefully I just have to replace the lid.

If I can't find a black lid I suppose I'll have to do some paintwork..

Removal and replacement is not hard. The 2 screws at the rear of the door lid and one on each side. Look for a used lid. I broke the rear tabs on mine a while back by over tightening them. A factory new lid is about $150.

I would first take it back to who you had work on the car and give them a chance to make it right. If not buy another from the parts section or eBay and have it painted, I would not fix that one because it will never be right.

Good advice Mr Bill.. I don't think the Car Lot is going to be too thrilled when they see the mess that the "shop" they sent me to made of my car. The Lot paid for this "job"..As I said, they were supposedly fixing a parking light issue, which they did fix. Previous to this fiasco my headlights both popped up perfectly. My first payment is on the 19th of june I'll be paying them a visit at the Lot.
