That's entirely different. Law enforcement is specially trained to operate equipment while driving (and we're not talking about running errands, we're talking DRIVING), up to and including communicating with other law enforcement via service radios and cell phones. Texting is unacceptable while driving, but talking on the phone is no different than talking on the service radio, and both are often required to do the job.
That having been said, I think the law should be 30% front in every state, marked LE vehicles included. This game of ticketing out-of-state vehicles for tint is baloney.
Sorry I've been behind LEO's talking on a cell just as distracted as others. If the law is no talking on the cell it's no talking period.

There's an LEO exemption in every state, county, and municipality that bans cell phone use while driving for the reasons I mentioned. If you don't like that, oh well. I'm not saying that everybody is perfect, I'm just explaining the exemption.

My point was there should be no exceptions. Tint or cell!! It's like all others are second class citizens.

I guarantee you would change your tune if all responding cops had to pull over to get information about your situation were your house being burglarized or if they were chasing the guy who shot you. Don't be ridiculous, some exemptions actually make sense; do you bitch about ambulances and fire trucks running red lights, too?

So I guess before cells LEO's were informationless? Come on they have radios and most are scrambled so just as secure. Don't need a cell phone to do there job. It's been done for years and years without cells. Either your to young or just forget.
Same reason they can talk and text while driving . And speed past you on the road. Me since GA law says a police car can not exceed the speed limit without lights I follow them.

And my point was that the service radio and a cell phone take exactly the same amount of attention to use while driving.
I already said that I don't agree with the tint law or the cell law, but I do use my cell phone on the job and I have worked plainclothes where the tint was a blessing; as I said after New York banned anything over 7 rounds and forgot to exempt the police: "I need these tools, and there's no reason the public shouldn't have them as well".
For what it's worth I went to 35% tint. Keep in mind that our windows do have some degree of " factory tint " on them already so whatever you put on your windows will be darker than the samples that you look at .
My suggestion....retire in a state that satisfies all your requirements....I can't wait to get to Florida....for example, no personal property tax on cars, no requirement for front plate, most tint %'s are ok, no state inspection, no emission test.....I could go on....and I won't be taking my C5 out of state....the other states can kiss my a@@.

I get you there are some exemptions that should be. Like undercover or for the job. But when I was visiting NJ one was on the phone for like 5 miles and turned into a fast food place. Cant say it was necessary but I doubt it. Things like this remind me when Hawaii police were defending they had to be exempt from having sex with prostitutes to do their jobs. Just seems most safety laws are made exempt for them because of some form of training. I have received military training and served in combat does that mean I should be exempt because I can do multiple things well and handle stress well? No. Just shouldn't be a blanket exemption.
On the tint I went with 35% and I think the meter had it at 31% due to factory tint I guess.
I would recommend staying in legal limits as well. You have no idea how many times in the past i've been stopped (especially when driving a black car) for no other reason than suspected illegal tint. I am still a little darker than legal (20%) but not enough to really get hassled about it.
Around my area LEO's carry devices to check the tint and if they don't happen to have one they call an officer that does and you just have to wait for them to arrive.
Check this link out to make sure you stay in legal limits http://tintlaws.com/
I kinda think that real light 35% tint looks better than dark tint on black cars. To me it just looks classier not gangsta

We do have it a heck of lot easier here vehicle wise than many other states the legal tint here is 28% on the front sides and 15% on back windows and rear side windows if your car has them. But honestly as long your car doesn't look like you might be some kinda thug and your not out driving around at 2am when the bars close you will probably never get bothered about it.
Personally, I do not like window tint. Every time I've bought a car with it I end up pulling it out. Don't need to get pulled over to have it checked, sucks at night, and in the rain. Plus I like the extra visibility of not having to look through a layer of plastic. Difficult for defensive drivers and motorcycle riders to know if you are looking at them or not. If the windows and top are down, kinda pointless. Never really thought it added that much to the cool look of any car. Civics with black windows, and wearing sunglasses at night come to mind.

While most sounds good and FL does have nice perks they get their money one way or another. Highway tax. Buddy lived in FL and said there was plenty other things to pay. But it all washes or might fall on your Benefit.
5% on every car or truck I have ever owned. Got a ticket once in Ft Peirce FL some whale of a cop. It was like $135 bucks and on my way. if its 80 or less out side my windows are down anyway so that helps.
